What's New in 9.3.1
Take a look at the new features and tools you can use with ArcGIS Desktop 9.3.1.

Automatic Vectorization

ArcScan for ArcGIS automatically converts raster data to vector features. This process, known as automatic vectorization, can significantly reduce the time it takes to vectorize scanned images.

ArcScan for ArcGIS supports two vectorization methods: centerline and outline. The method you use depends on your requirements and the types of scanned images you vectorize.

  • Centerline vectorization generates vector features along the center of the raster linear elements. This method is typically used for vectorizing scanned parcel, contour, or soil maps.
  • Outline vectorization generates vector features at the border of the connected cells (linear elements and solids). This method is typically used for vectorizing scanned land-use and vegetation maps.

ArcScan for ArcGIS allows you to create vector features from a selected area or the entire image.
