Key Features
Using Maplex for ArcGIS in conjunction with one of the ArcGIS Desktop productsArcView, ArcEditor,
or ArcInfoyou will have all
the tools you need to quickly create high-quality maps.
Rich Rule-Based Label Placement
Maplex for ArcGIS resolves conflicts between text and label placement. Maplex
for ArcGIS extends the standard labeling options with advanced rules for label
placement. These rules are dynamically applied based on the scale of the map
and the features being displayed.
Some of these rules include
- Label offsets
- Stacking
- Curving
- Font reduction
- Customizable abbreviation
- Boundary placement
- Repeated labeling
- Character spacing
- Label overrun on features
- Feature weights
- Boundary weights
Place More and Better Labels
Maplex for ArcGIS takes feature and text attributes from ArcMap and allows you to control text placement by providing additional label placement options. Using an advanced conflict detection algorithm, Maplex for ArcGIS can place a larger number of labels in appropriate locations.
Integration With ArcGIS Desktop
Because Maplex for ArcGIS generates standard ArcMap labels, these labels can
be saved just like standard labels. First, they can be saved as dynamic labels
in a map that can be viewed by anyone with ArcView. These labels could also
be saved as text graphics in the map, allowing you to publish it with ArcGIS
Publisher so the map and text could be viewed by anyone with the free ArcReader
application. Labels could also be saved in a geodatabase, so anyone in your
organization could quickly take advantage of text placement generated from
Maplex for ArcGIS. With ArcEditor or ArcInfo,
you can create feature-linked geodatabase annotation from Maplex for ArcGIS
labels. Feature-linked geodatabase annotation can not only be viewed by anyone
with ArcView, but it also automatically updates as the location and attributes
of your features change.
Produce Clearer Maps
Maplex
for ArcGIS works together with ArcMap symbology to produce high-quality cartographic
maps. If you produce high-quality, annotated maps, these tools will save you
many hours of intensive manual text placement time.
