Multiple Language Support

Right-to-Left Reading Text

Maplex for ArcGIS supports multiple languages, characters, and glyphs, including languages that read in a right-to-left direction. There is also support for multidirectional labeling and character combining (where multiple characters in the text are combined into a single glyph for display).

Maplex for ArcGIS generates stacked labels with automatic justification of the stack to support left-to-right and right-to-left reading languages within the same text string.

Stacked Bidirectional Labels

Maplex for ArcGIS supports display of vertical Asian text. You can specify to always use vertical or horizontal characters or flip between the two when a threshold angle is passed.
