Intelligent Charting for Asia's Longest River
Using ArcGIS, the Changjiang Waterway Bureau charts approximately 5,300 navigational markers, including beacons and buoys, along 3,915 miles of river. The digital charts can be edited in a multiuser GIS environment and data updated as needed.
Historically, the bureau provided navigational reference services in the form of hard-copy charts. However, ships sailing the Changjiang River are increasingly using modern digital information technology, including electronic navigation devices instead of paper charts, and need more current ENC data. Bureau staff chose ArcGIS because it was the only solution available that could handle the large volumes of disparate geographic data used throughout the organization and distribute information quickly as ENCs.
A Modern Maritime Charting Solution for the UAE
Bayanat for Mapping and Surveying Services LLC is a wholly owned Mubadala company based in Abu Dhabi that was born from the commercialization of the UAE Armed Forces Military Survey Department (MSD). Bayanat is continuing this tradition by delivering world-class geospatial services to customers in the UAE and beyond.
As part of their modernization effort, Bayanat deployed an enterprise system for the production and maintenance of hydrographic and safety of navigation products, which includes Electronic Navigation Charts (ENCs) and paper nautical charts. The modern Maritime Charting solution will provide a leading-edge, COTS-based system that will be the authoritative source for maritime information for the UAE.
