PLTS for ArcGIS—Nautical Solution Key Features

Leveraging a database-centric approach, Nautical Solution can be used to produce and maintain standard DNC and ENC products as well as standards-compliant hard-copy nautical charts. Some of the key features within Nautical Solution include

ENC-Specific Utilities

  • S-57 Import/Export—S-57 import and export tools allow complete management and control of the S-57 new editions and updates (EN/ER) throughout the data production life cycle. Nautical Solution manages S-57 primitives and topology and allows efficient editing and querying of S-57 objects in the database.
  • Advanced Queries—The Advanced Query tool streamlines the user experience by providing robust nautical query capability.
  • Relationship Manager—The Relationship Manager controls complex S-57 object relationships in the database, providing users with simplified management of complex clustered features such as buoys and lights.
  • SCAMIN and Metadata Management—One-touch management and population of key metadata attributes and scale minimum (SCAMIN) values.
  • Unit Conversion—Powerful, configurable management of unit conversion for S-57 throughout Nautical Solution.
  • Automated Feature Creation—Nautical Solution contains tools for automatic generation of features such as depth areas and linear depth areas as well as precise geodesic feature creation via Feature Builder.

DNC-Specific Utilities

  • VPF Conversion—VPF conversion provides you with the ability to import multiple VPF libraries at the same time. The export process automatically generates geographic reference system (GEOREF) tiles based on your library's extent and adheres to 1996 cross-tile topology standards.
  • Managing Notes—The Notes Editor allows you to manage notes at a database level. No longer are notes tied to libraries; they are tied to features without duplication. Notes can be easily exported to VPF using proven conversion procedures.
  • Apply Notice to Mariners—The Notice to Mariners tool uses corrections noted in the NTM text file to determine where to generate new features, or it will direct you to existing features to modify or delete them. Currently, the NTM tool only adds point features but can be used to locate any feature given a pair of coordinates.
  • Unit Conversion—Unit conversion allows you to convert units from feet, fathoms, and fathoms and fractions to meters based on National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency (NGA) conversion requirements.

Charting-Specific Utilities

  • Standards Support—Nautical Solution provides full INT1, INT2, and INT3 support with the preconfigured and adaptable database-driven cartographic rule engine harnessing the powerful ArcGIS 9.2 representation technology.
  • Complex Symbology Management—Included utilities support management of cartographic elements, such as light sectors and compass roses, and related objects such as buoys and top marks.
  • Grids, Graticules, and Border—The Grid Manager automates creation and management of sophisticated nautical geographic reference information.
  • Tide/Channel Table Creation—The Table Element provides database-driven or interactive content as embedded spreadsheetlike tables on the chart.
  • Layout—Chart marginalia management utilities allow for specification-compliant chart layout.
