NOAA and the Geoportal
This ArcNews article describes how NOAA's National Climatic Data Center (NCDC) uses Esri's geoportal technology to make its geospatial data available to scientists and users all around the world.
Geoportal Server is a free, open source product that is available for download on SourceForge. It is a stand-alone product that does not require ArcGIS Server or an ArcGIS Server license. Use is subject to the terms and conditions stipulated in the Apache 2.0 open source license.
Esri offers an annual support plan for the Geoportal Server. Support includes unlimited Web (e-mail and chat) and phone support from Esri's technology experts (Available Monday–Friday, 5:00 AM to 5:00 PM, Pacific Standard Time).
Note: Ongoing maintenance for the ArcGIS Server Geoportal extension is still available.
