At 9.3.1, the ArcGIS Server Geoportal extension features many enhancements to improve efficiency and collaboration.
Streamlined Previewer
Preview geospatial services, including ArcGIS Server, OGC WMS, ArcIMS, KML, and GeoRSS services, through a lightweight streamlined previewer built with the ArcGIS API for JavaScript.
Specified Catalog Search
Visitors to a geoportal can limit their search to the geoportal or a specified external geoportal that is registered to the geoportal as a CS-W repository. Additionally, visitors can search, out-of-the-box, ArcGIS Online from within a geoportal.
Thesaurus Integration
Visitors can receive improved search results with the ability to integrate a thesaurus service.
Sitemap Generation
Sitemap generation allows the content of a geoportal to be crawled by search engines such as Google and Yahoo!. This further increases the findability of registered GIS resources and thus increases the exploitation of those resources.
Enhanced Security with Access Control Policies
Through Lightweight Directory Access Protocol (LDAP), organizations can restrict record-level metadata access with one of three access control policies.
Simplified Service Registry
An ArcGIS Server, OGC W*S, KML, or GeoRSS service can be added to a geoportal just by cutting and pasting its URL.
Metadata Drafts
Drafts of metadata can now be saved to a geoportal to complete later without submitting them to the geoportal administrator.
Harvesting Enhancements
Publishers can now directly harvest from ArcGIS Server and automatically generate metadata.
Integration with Enterprise Systems
Users can now use the OGC Catalog Service for the Web (CS-W) SOAP binding to integrate a geoportal into other enterprise systems that use SOAP services.
ATOM Support
The Geoportal extension enhances the capabilities to develop custom user interfaces and integration of search capabilities into other Web or desktop platforms by adding the ATOM format as an output of the Geoportal REST interface.
Enhanced OpenSearch Support
Users can now add the ability to search a geoportal from a Web browser's search box.
Geoportal Search Widget
This widget allows Web sites to embed a geoportal search box directly on their Web pages.
Additionally, the Geoportal extension features greatly expanded documentation.
