Known Issues with ArcPad 6.0.2 and Pocket PC 2003

ArcPad 6.0.2 is supported on Pocket PC 2003 (Windows Mobile 2003) with the following known limitations.

  1. Data is stored on a Compact Flash or Secure Digital Storage Card
  2. VBScript Script Engine is Not Supported

1. Data is stored on a Compact Flash or Secure Digital Storage Card

If you are using ArcPad 6.0.2 with shapefiles stored on a Compact Flash or a Secure Digital storage card and the Pocket PC device is turned off before exiting ArcPad, the operating system automatically closes the shapefiles being used by ArcPad. Once closed, these shapefiles are no longer available in future ArcPad sessions. This is caused by an internal problem with ArcPad, shapefiles, and the Pocket PC 2003 operating system.

Workaround
In order to avoid this problem from occurring:

  • Exit ArcPad before turning off the Pocket PC unit
  • Open a new empty map before turning off the Pocket PC unit

2. VBScript Script Engine is Not Supported

ArcPad returns the message "VBScript script engine not supported on this system" when opened or if ArcPad 6.0.2 shuts down immediately after startup on a Pocket PC 2003 or Windows Mobile 2003 device. This is caused because ArcPad requires the VBScript Runtime Library, which is no longer included in ROM with Pocket PC 2003 or Windows Mobile 2003.

Workaround
ArcPad includes a VBScript Runtime Library, which you can easily install onto your Pocket PC device. To install the VBScript library on your device:

  1. Establish an ActiveSync connection between your desktop PC and Pocket PC.
  2. On your desktop PC, click Start > Programs > ArcGIS > ArcPad > Install VBScript Runtime Library for Windows CE.
  3. Follow the instructions on your screen.
