About Usability Engineering

ESRI is committed to ensuring that you are productive and satisfied with our software products through Usability Testing.

Usability Testing is the process where representative users are involved in evaluating a product.

Typically, an individual user will be asked to use a product that is under development. The product is evaluated for its ability to enable the user to perform everyday work tasks efficiently and effectively.

The session usually lasts about two hours and is videotaped. Later, the video will be studied to find areas in the product that need improvement. Usability Specialists are interested in the amount of time it takes to complete a task, the number and severity of errors made and their cause, and how satisfied the user is with the product's design.

It is important to remember that it is the product that is being tested, not the user. The user's feedback is very important in evaluating and improving the product.
