Instructor Candidate Requirements
General Requirements for All Course Authorizations
Determine your Authorized Instructor classification: All Authorized Instructors are accepted into the ATP via one of the following classifications:
In-house Instructor:
- The focus of an In-House Instructor is to primarily serve in a capacity to expand the internal knowledge of their company’s employees to encourage the use of ESRI software.
- Teaching is limited to internal company employees
Educational Institution Instructor:
- The focus of an Educational Institution Instructor is to provide authorized ESRI courses in the classroom environment of educational institutions.
- Teaching is limited to the respective student body for tuition
Commercial Instructor:
- The focus of a Commercial Instructor is to provide the standard ESRI Authorized Courses to the general ESRI user community.
Details on the requirements of each of these classifications are found in the Classification Matrix.
Authorization Requirements
Prequalification Questionnaire: All authorizations begin with the submission of a prequalification questionnaire. Questionnaires will be accepted according to the ATP Prequalification Questionnaire Acceptance Policy and may be approved or denied based on the current needs of the Authorized Training Program. It is highly recommended that you obtain prequalification approval before paying (though not necessarily before registering) for the prerequisite training.
Instructor Certification: Both Educational Institution and Commercial Instructor candidates are required to submit a valid instructor certificate or equivalent in order to prequalify as an ATP candidate. Please see FAQ Program Requirements and Certifications for detailed explanations.
Current instructors will be temporarily grandfathered in for the instructor certificate requirement until a future release of the software. The exact release and release date has not yet been determined. An announcement will be sent when the release and release date have been determined.
Digital Portfolio: A digital portfolio or GIS-P needs to be submitted along with the prequalification questionnaire for both Educational Institution and Commercial Instructor candidates.
Interview: All candidates may be contacted during the prequalification process for an interview.
Prerequisite Training: Training must be taken from an ESRI instructor within 12 months of the application date. If courses have been updated within the last 12 months due to new software releases, you may be required to complete additional "gap training" at your own expense. Training taken from an ATP instructor does not qualify.
Instructor Performance Evaluation (IPE): All candidates must undergo an instructor performance evaluation with the regional office; presentation skills and the ability to teach are as important as software knowledge. Your IPE can be scheduled upon prequalification approval and may be schedule during your prerequisite training.
Fees: Each authorization requires applicable application, authorization and subsequent annual maintenance fees. Software Training Kits are available for an additional fee and annual maintenance.
Annual Requirements: Detailed requirements for maintaining your course authorization can be found on the Maintaining Your Authorization page.
