Esri and SAP Advance Integration of Business Technology and GIS Platforms

ArcGIS Enterprise Running on SAP HANA Cloud Breaks Down Data Silos

REDLANDS, Calif.—April 14, 2021—Esri, the global leader in location intelligence, today advanced its partnership with SAP by announcing the certification and support for SAP’s database-as-a-service offering and key component of SAP Business Technology Platform, SAP HANA Cloud. With this capability, Esri and SAP are accelerating customer adoption of cloud-based location intelligence platforms with a high-performance environment that scales to the largest enterprises.

“We’ve had a long-standing strategic partnership with SAP, and we are both committed to empowering digital transformations with the seamless integration of operational and locational data,” said Sud Menon, Director of Software Product Development at Esri. “With ArcGIS Enterprise now supporting SAP HANA Cloud, our customers can leverage the full power of their geospatial platform with the powerful database and analytic capabilities of SAP’s leading cloud database-as-a-service.”

Many organizations deal with multiple sources of data that are not connected. They need a central repository to unify their disparate databases and provide a complete overview of all their data. Whether that data comes from SAP, non-SAP, cloud, or on-premises sources, SAP HANA Cloud breaks down data silos. With Esri’s support of SAP HANA Cloud, customers gain a single gateway and source of the truth for all data.

Together, Esri’s enterprise geospatial solutions and SAP HANA Cloud will elevate organizations’ geospatial capabilities to new levels. Open Grid Europe, for instance operates Germany’s largest natural gas pipeline network. “Migrating to SAP HANA Cloud is a dramatic improvement that provides us with insights that were impossible to get before,” said Stefan Vancraeyenest, project manager for IT applications at Open Grid. “We can go beyond mere maintenance of data to visualizing business and operational data for real-time analysis.”

Looking forward, SAP and Esri will continue to collaborate around SAP S4/HANA platform integration and cloud initiatives. In addition, SAP is working toward integrating Esri’s new location Platform-as-a-Service offering, ArcGIS Platform, with components of the SAP Business Technology Platform, making location services available to the SAP developer community and to line of business applications.

“As organizations evolve to become intelligent enterprises, customers want ways to leverage investments in both geographic information and IT systems,” said Raghu Ramanathan, Chief Revenue Officer for Platform and Technology at SAP. “Location services from Esri’s ArcGIS Platform will be exposed through SAP’s cloud consumption model, so customers can more easily build, integrate, and extend innovative applications that combine real-time business data with geospatial intelligence. SAP Business Technology Platform lets customers use SAP and Esri platforms together, combining location intelligence with real-time transactional and analytical data.”
