Esri President Jack Dangermond Receives California 30x30 Champion Award

Recognition Honors Leadership in Science, Mapping, Philanthropy, and Conservation Partnerships

REDLANDS, Calif.—October 6, 2026—Esri, the global leader in geographic information system (GIS) technology, today announced that company president Jack Dangermond received the 30×30 Champion Award last Tuesday at the 30×30 Partnership 2026 Summit.

Presented to Dangermond by California Governor Gavin Newsom at the California Academy of Sciences, the award recognizes exceptional contributions to California’s goal of conserving 30 percent of the state’s lands and coastal waters by 2030. It honors individuals, California Native American tribes, organizations, and partners whose leadership, collaboration, innovation, or stewardship has helped realize the state’s conservation vision.

Dangermond was recognized for advancing 30×30 through leadership spanning science, technology, philanthropy, and partnership. Through Esri, he has helped make GIS a powerful tool for understanding California’s landscapes and advancing shared conservation goals, including CA Nature, the state’s online resource for the 30×30 initiative. His personal philanthropic work has also helped protect significant natural areas in the state, like the 24,000-acre Jack and Laura Dangermond Preserve.

“I am honored to receive this award and to continue the work we do at Esri for California’s 30×30 initiative,” said Dangermond. “Through CA Nature, Esri sought to empower everyone from the public and educators to scientists and government decision-makers with our mapping technology so they can turn data into meaningful action.”
