We map to achieve such an orchard of understanding.\r\n\r\n<strong>Richard Saul Wurman,<\/strong>\u00a0with\u00a0<strong>Jack Dangermond<\/strong>\u00a0and\u00a0<strong>Esri,<\/strong>\u00a0has created a new publication to realize some useful patterns, often idiosyncratic. These patterns\u2014some numeric, some graphic, some visual, some comparative, some conversational, and some computational\u2014allow us to understand the world around us.\r\n\r\n<em>UnderstandingUnderstanding<\/em>\u00a0is eclectic, as was the TED conference that Wurman created in 1984. It explains the diversity of patterns of understanding. All maps are patterns that give us the ability to perceive. This capacity is the seed of the\u00a0<strong>GIS<\/strong>\u00a0and\u00a0<strong>information architecture<\/strong>\u00a0thinking revolution created by Dangermond and Wurman 50 years ago.
