This app is excellent for showing a structured set of maps as well as different places on the same map. It also can be used to compare multiple datasets.\r\n\r\nHere's a short tip (with plenty of images to walk you through the steps) that explains how to quickly create a Story Map Series app.\r\n\r\n<strong>Step 1\u2014<\/strong>Go to the Esri\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/storymaps.arcgis.com\/en\/\">Story Maps<\/a>\u00a0website. At the top of the page, click Apps.\r\n\r\n<img src=\"http:\/\/www.esri.com\/about\/newsroom\/app\/uploads\/2018\/08\/tip1-3.jpg\" \/>\r\n\r\nScroll down the page until you reach\u00a0<strong>Presenting a Series of Maps. Story Map Series<\/strong>\u00a0has three layouts to choose from:\u00a0<strong>Story Map Series\u2014Tabbed Layout, Story Map Series\u2014Side Accordion Layout,<\/strong>\u00a0and\u00a0<strong>Story Map Series\u2014Bulleted Layout.<\/strong>\r\n\r\nFor this tip's purposes, choose\u00a0<strong>Story Map Series\u2014Tabbed Layout<\/strong>\u00a0and click\u00a0<strong>Build.<\/strong>\u00a0Sign in to your ArcGIS account if prompted.\r\n\r\n<img src=\"http:\/\/www.esri.com\/about\/newsroom\/app\/uploads\/2018\/08\/tip2-3.jpg\" \/>\r\n\r\n<strong>Step 2\u2014<\/strong>When the\u00a0<strong>Map Series Builder<\/strong>\u00a0opens, enter a name for your story, such as\u00a0<strong>\"Some Cool San Diego Neighborhoods\".<\/strong>\r\n\r\n<img src=\"http:\/\/www.esri.com\/about\/newsroom\/app\/uploads\/2018\/08\/tip3-3.jpg\" \/>\r\n\r\nThe\u00a0<strong>ADD TAB<\/strong>\u00a0dialog box opens, letting you add the first tab to your story map. Since this will be the cover of your story map, choose\u00a0<strong>Image.<\/strong>\r\n\r\n<img src=\"http:\/\/www.esri.com\/about\/newsroom\/app\/uploads\/2018\/08\/tip3b.jpg\" \/>\r\n\r\nNext, select the\u00a0<strong>Flickr<\/strong>\u00a0option and type\u00a0<strong>Esri Story Maps Demo<\/strong>\u00a0in the search box. Click\u00a0<strong>Load albums.<\/strong>\r\n\r\n<img src=\"http:\/\/www.esri.com\/about\/newsroom\/app\/uploads\/2018\/08\/tip4-3.jpg\" \/>\r\n\r\nYou will see the\u00a0<strong>Welcome to San Diego<\/strong>\u00a0album.\r\n\r\n<img src=\"http:\/\/www.esri.com\/about\/newsroom\/app\/uploads\/2018\/08\/tip5-3.jpg\" \/>\r\n\r\n<strong>Step 3\u2014<\/strong>Click on the\u00a0<strong>Welcome to San Diego<\/strong>\u00a0album and then on the photograph\u00a0<strong>Downtown San Diego - Gaslamp Quarter.<\/strong>\r\n\r\n<img src=\"http:\/\/www.esri.com\/about\/newsroom\/app\/uploads\/2018\/08\/tip5b.jpg\" \/>\r\n\r\nMake sure that the\u00a0<strong>Position<\/strong>\u00a0default is\u00a0<strong>Fill.<\/strong>\u00a0This will fill the first tab of your story map with your image. If you use an infographic or other image that you want to make sure doesn't get cropped at different browser widths, you would use\u00a0<strong>Fit<\/strong>\u00a0instead of\u00a0<strong>Fill.<\/strong>\u00a0Enter Intro as the title of your tab.\r\n\r\n<img src=\"http:\/\/www.esri.com\/about\/newsroom\/app\/uploads\/2018\/08\/tip6-3.jpg\" \/>\r\n\r\nClick\u00a0<strong>ADD.<\/strong>\u00a0Below you will see an image of what your story map should look like at this stage.\r\n\r\n<img src=\"http:\/\/www.esri.com\/about\/newsroom\/app\/uploads\/2018\/08\/tip7-3.jpg\" \/>\r\n\r\n<strong>Step 4\u2014<\/strong>Begin to write your story in the\u00a0<strong>text box,<\/strong>\u00a0including links in the text if you wish. You can also insert images, videos, or web pages in the box. Click\u00a0<strong>SAVE.<\/strong>\r\n\r\n<img src=\"http:\/\/www.esri.com\/about\/newsroom\/app\/uploads\/2018\/08\/tip8-3.jpg\" \/>\r\n\r\n<strong>Step 5\u2014<\/strong>Now click\u00a0<strong>ADD<\/strong>\u00a0to create a new tab title called\u00a0<strong>Gaslamp Quarter.<\/strong>\u00a0Select\u00a0<strong>Map<\/strong>\u00a0as the\u00a0<strong>CONTENT<\/strong>\u00a0option, then click the Map drop-down arrow and choose\u00a0<strong>Select a map.<\/strong>\r\n\r\n<img src=\"http:\/\/www.esri.com\/about\/newsroom\/app\/uploads\/2018\/08\/tip9-3.jpg\" \/>\r\n\r\n<strong>Step 6\u2014<\/strong>Choose\u00a0<strong>ArcGIS Online<\/strong>\u00a0from the drop-down menu. This lets you find a publicly shared web map that someone else has created. Search for\u00a0<strong>StoryMapsWorkshop San Diego<\/strong>\u00a0and choose the\u00a0<strong>Welcome to San Diego<\/strong>\u00a0map.\r\n\r\n<img src=\"http:\/\/www.esri.com\/about\/newsroom\/app\/uploads\/2018\/08\/tip10-3.jpg\" \/>\r\n\r\nOn the\u00a0<strong>ADD TAB<\/strong>\u00a0dialog box, type\u00a0<strong>Gaslamp Quarter<\/strong>\u00a0as the tab title. Next to\u00a0<strong>Location,<\/strong>\u00a0click\u00a0<strong>Custom configuration<\/strong>\u00a0(rather than Map default).\r\n\r\n<img src=\"http:\/\/www.esri.com\/about\/newsroom\/app\/uploads\/2018\/08\/tip11a.jpg\" \/>\r\n\r\nThe map will be added to your app.\r\n\r\n<img src=\"http:\/\/www.esri.com\/about\/newsroom\/app\/uploads\/2018\/08\/tip11b.jpg\" \/>\r\n\r\n<strong>Step 7\u2014<\/strong>Zoom to the location on the map you want to show. In this case, zoom to the Gaslamp Quarter in downtown San Diego. If you have been to the\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.esri.com\/events\/user-conference\">Esri User Conference<\/a>, you will likely know this district well. If not, zoom in to downtown San Diego, north of the San Diego Convention Center. The Gaslamp District is outlined on the map. When you set your map extent, click\u00a0<strong>SAVE MAP LOCATION.<\/strong>\u00a0On the\u00a0<strong>ADD TAB<\/strong>\u00a0dialog box, click\u00a0<strong>ADD<\/strong>to add the Gaslamp Quarter tab.\r\n\r\n<img src=\"http:\/\/www.esri.com\/about\/newsroom\/app\/uploads\/2018\/08\/tip12.jpg\" \/>\r\n\r\nWrite some descriptive text about your map. You can also include extra layers to your map if you wish. Click\u00a0<strong>EDIT<\/strong>\u00a0on the\u00a0<strong>Map Series Builder<\/strong>\u00a0toolbar. On the\u00a0<strong>EDIT TAB<\/strong>\u00a0dialog box, go to\u00a0<strong>Content<\/strong>\u00a0and choose\u00a0<strong>Custom configuration.<\/strong>\r\n\r\n<img src=\"http:\/\/www.esri.com\/about\/newsroom\/app\/uploads\/2018\/08\/tip13.jpg\" \/>\r\n\r\nUnder\u00a0<strong>MAP CONTENT,<\/strong>\u00a0you will see a list of layer choices: Fun, Food, Design, Trolley Stations, Trolley Lines, Ferries, and Neighborhoods. Fun, Ferries, and Neighborhoods are already checked. Check off other layers you wish to add.\r\n\r\n<img src=\"http:\/\/www.esri.com\/about\/newsroom\/app\/uploads\/2018\/08\/tip14.jpg\" \/>\r\n\r\nAfter making your choices, click\u00a0<strong>SAVE MAP CONTENT.<\/strong>\u00a0The\u00a0<strong>EDIT TAB<\/strong>\u00a0dialog box for the map will reappear. Click\u00a0<strong>SAVE.<\/strong>\r\n\r\n<img src=\"http:\/\/www.esri.com\/about\/newsroom\/app\/uploads\/2018\/08\/tip15a.jpg\" \/>\r\n\r\nYour story map should now look like the one below. Click\u00a0<strong>SAVE<\/strong>\u00a0on the\u00a0<strong>Map Series Builder<\/strong>\u00a0toolbar occasionally to make sure you keep your changes intact.\r\n\r\n<img src=\"http:\/\/www.esri.com\/about\/newsroom\/app\/uploads\/2018\/08\/tip15b.jpg\" \/>\r\n\r\n<strong>Step 8\u2014<\/strong>You've now added a map tab to your Story Map Series app. Next, add maps and tabs for other San Diego neighborhoods. Click\u00a0<strong>ADD<\/strong>\u00a0on the Map Series Builder toolbar. On the\u00a0<strong>ADD TAB<\/strong>\u00a0dialog box, the Welcome to San Diego map will reappear. Enter a tab title such as Little Italy. The Location box will say, \"Inherited from the first map.\" To change this, go to\u00a0<strong>SETTINGS<\/strong>\u00a0and click\u00a0<strong>Map options.<\/strong>\u00a0Uncheck\u00a0<strong>Synchronize map locations.<\/strong>\u00a0Click\u00a0<strong>APPLY.<\/strong>\u00a0Now zoom in to Little Italy. Click\u00a0<strong>EDIT,<\/strong>\u00a0and when the\u00a0<strong>EDIT TAB<\/strong>\u00a0dialog box opens, go to\u00a0<strong>Location<\/strong>\u00a0and click\u00a0<strong>Custom configuration.<\/strong>\u00a0Next click\u00a0<strong>SAVE MAP LOCATION.<\/strong>\u00a0When the\u00a0<strong>EDIT TAB<\/strong>\u00a0dialog box reappears, click\u00a0<strong>SAVE.<\/strong>\u00a0Return to the\u00a0<strong>EDIT TAB<\/strong>\u00a0dialog box to custom configure your content and pop-ups too.\r\n\r\nFeel free to experiment.\r\n\r\nDuring the editing process, URL links were added in the text. Small images of the neighborhoods were placed inside the text boxes along with captions. You can also change the name of your story map. Just click the pencil icon to the right of your story map title. We did, so the Story Map Series app built for this tip is now called\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/arcg.is\/2oAQjx4\">Some Cool San Diego Places and Spaces<\/a>.\r\n\r\n<img src=\"http:\/\/www.esri.com\/about\/newsroom\/app\/uploads\/2018\/08\/tip16a.jpg\" \/>\r\n\r\n<strong>Step 9\u2014<\/strong>Don't forget to share your story map. Go to\u00a0<strong>Map Series Builder<\/strong>\u00a0at the top of your screen and click\u00a0<strong>SHARE.<\/strong>\u00a0You can either make your Esri Story Map Series app public or share it only within your organization.
