From areas of abundance to places struck with drought, ensuring access to a clean, reliable source of water is critical.<br \/>\nWorld Water Day is an international observance and an opportunity to learn more about water related issues, be inspired to tell others and take action to make a difference. World Water Day dates back to the 1992 United Nations Conference on Environment and Development where an international observance for water was recommended. The United Nations General Assembly responded by designating 22 March 1993 as the first World Water Day. It has been held annually since then.<br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.esri.com\/about\/newsroom\/app\/uploads\/files\/2016\/03\/water-resources-main.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-6733\" src=\"http:\/\/www.esri.com\/about\/newsroom\/app\/uploads\/files\/2016\/03\/water-resources-main-1024x214.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"640\" height=\"133\" \/><\/a><br \/>\nMaps help us protect water supplies and their integrity by understanding how human behaviors impact the natural system, document water sources and quantify their capacity based on current and historic data, and then share the story of the water system through engaging maps so everyone can see how today\u2019s actions affect tomorrow\u2019s water system.<!--more--><br \/>\n<strong><br \/>\nWater &amp; Climate Resilience<\/strong><br \/>\n\u201cWater is life,\u201d many would say, yet access to clean water is decreasing as temperatures and drought increase. Local, state, and federal governments have taken actions to protect water as a precious resources and mitigate coastal flooding. A new study by the University of California Davis\u2019 Center for Watershed Sciences estimates that irrigation operations in the state\u2019s Central Valley\u200a\u2014\u200aa region billed as the richest food-producing region on earth\u200a\u2014\u200awill receive around two-thirds of its normal water deliveries this year. Human activity such as trade, travel, and tourism have all increased substantially, escalating the speed and volume of species movement to unprecedented levels. That\u2019s why as Idahoans we must take care about the invasive species we allow to move into and around our state.
