Interactive maps and spatial analysis help them prioritize spending, site service locations, identify vulnerable populations, and tell their stories.<br \/>\nThe following five <a href=\"http:\/\/storymaps.arcgis.com\/en\/%27\" target=\"_blank\">story maps<\/a> illustrate some of the ways <a href=\"http:\/\/www.esri.com\/what-is-gis\" target=\"_blank\">GIS<\/a> is modernizing and transforming health throughout the world.<br \/>\n<strong><br \/>\nMapping the Story of Health Disparities<\/strong><br \/>\nEveryone deserves to be healthy. Unfortunately, factors such as race\/ethnicity, gender, socioeconomic status, and geographic location can prevent people from getting the care and resources they need. Unequal differences in health status and gaps in care, known as health disparities, put vulnerable populations at a higher risk for preventable diseases and health conditions. <!--more--><br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/mapping.mpr.sc.edu\/healthdisparitiesmapjournal\/\" target=\"_blank\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/d262ilb51hltx0.cloudfront.net\/max\/1200\/1*OdQU7NIODKxV3S_rKCfIfw.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1200\" height=\"654\" \/><\/a><br \/>\nThis map highlights the geographic disparities in health status among South Carolina Medicaid enrollees. Or billboards. Or newspapers. Or magazines. Instead, tobacco companies spend $7.8 billion in the retail environment.
