The Science Symposium will include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>A <strong>keynote address<\/strong> by Margaret Leinen, Director of the Scripps Institution of Oceanography, current president of the American Geophysical Union, and a US State Department Science Envoy.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<div>\n<figure id=\"attachment_6814\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-6814\" style=\"width: 324px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.esri.com\/about\/newsroom\/app\/uploads\/files\/2016\/03\/Margaret-Leinen1.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-6814 \" src=\"http:\/\/www.esri.com\/about\/newsroom\/app\/uploads\/files\/2016\/03\/Margaret-Leinen1.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"324\" height=\"325\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-6814\" class=\"wp-caption-text\"><em>Margaret Leinen, Director of the Scripps Institution of Oceanography, will deliver the keynote address at the 2016 Esri Science Symposium.<\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n<ul>\n<li>A <strong>conversational reaction panel of GIScientists<\/strong> moderated by Mike Goodchild (UCSB Geography emeritus) with John Wilson (USC Spatial Sciences Institute), Marco Painho (U. Nova de Lisboa Geography), Ming Tsou (San Diego State Geography), and Cyrus Shahabi (USC Computer Science).<\/li>\n<li><strong>Audience Q\/A and discussion<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Networking reception<\/strong>: Enjoy stunning views of the San Diego Harbor, delicious appetizers, and a hosted bar of beer, wine, soft drinks, and bottled water.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><!--more-->This new event at the UC and EdUC seeks to \u201cbroaden the tent\u201d of participation beyond the traditional geographers and GIScientists, to those working in the <em>domain <\/em>sciences (e.g., ocean science, hydrology, ecology, forestry, climate science, geology\/geophysics, agricultural science, conservation biology, sustainability science and\/or geodesign, health sciences, and the social sciences). A further aim is to strengthen the links between Esri and the scientific community while (re)crystallizing a community of scientists at the UC normally scattered throughout the week in disparate sessions.<br \/>\nThe event will be held <strong>Tuesday, June 28 from 3:15-5:30 pm<\/strong> in the <strong>Marriott Marina Salons E and F <\/strong>and is open to registered attendees of both the EdUC and UC.
