Introducing ArcGIS Velocity for ArcGIS Enterprise

ArcGIS Velocity delivers real-time data integration and analytics capabilities, empowering organizations to ingest, analyze, and act on streaming data from virtually any source, including IoT sensors, moving assets, and event streams. Now you can host Velocity in your own environment to explore your streaming IoT data on maps and dashboards, identify temporal patterns, and extract location-based intelligence.

What Is ArcGIS Velocity for ArcGIS Enterprise?

Previously offered exclusively as a Software-as-a-Service extension for ArcGIS Online, ArcGIS Velocity is now available for self-hosted ArcGIS Enterprise deployments on Windows and Linux, providing organizations with a modernized interface and codebase for real-time feed ingestion and analytics within their own infrastructure. The core functionality includes:

 

ArcGIS Velocity ingests real-time data from streaming, sensor, and asset sources; analyzes it as events occur; triggers automated actions and alerts; and enables organizations to store, manage, and share insights.

Real-Time data ingestion

ArcGIS Velocity enables seamless configuration of real-time streaming data feeds from diverse sources, including industry-leading cloud IoT platforms, messaging brokers, and sensor or vendor APIs. ArcGIS Velocity provides 21 native data provider feeds that you can connect to within the Velocity interface when you create a new feed, with additional providers continually being added. Once users have connected to live data, you can immediately view it through stream and feature layers, which can be embedded in ArcGIS maps and dashboards. By visualizing this data in real time, users gain a common operating picture that helps track assets, make real-time observations, and monitor live events to improve real-time awareness.

Analyze data in real-time

With ArcGIS Velocity, users can set up real-time analytics through an intuitive drag-and-drop model builder interface, allowing you to process each observation as it comes in. For instance, you can configure analytics to automatically highlight locations within a geofence, compute movement statistics for devices and vehicles, or quickly detect incidents as they happen. This capability ensures that important observations are noticed right away, enabling timely and well-informed decisions.

Push automated actions and alerts

ArcGIS Velocity allows users to configure automated notifications and alerts that activate in real time when predefined conditions are met. These alerts push information to other business systems, sensors, and devices. For example, you can send Microsoft Teams or Slack message, email or text notifications to personnel out in the field, store data for further analysis, or trigger actions to IoT devices. This functionality enables organizations to respond quickly and effectively when necessary.

Store, manage, and disseminate information and findings

After analysis is complete, findings can be distributed to others in a variety of ways. ArcGIS Velocity enables the dissemination of information through automated alerts tailored to organizational workflows. Analysis results may be published as feature layers, displayed in ArcGIS maps and applications, or incorporated as metrics in dashboards. Results can also be written to services such as Kafka or RabbitMQ, or stored in data repositories including Amazon S3 and Azure Blob.

What is new in this release?

ArcGIS Velocity for ArcGIS Enterprise 12.1 is the first release for single-machine Windows and Linux deployments. ArcGIS Velocity for ArcGIS Enterprise has functional parity for feeds and real-time analytics with ArcGIS Velocity for ArcGIS Online and enables the same real-time workflows as ArcGIS GeoEvent Server. The ArcGIS Enterprise deployment of ArcGIS Velocity provides real-time capabilities for users who require self-hosted environments on Windows and Linux, but it will not contain big data analytics.

New functionality for ArcGIS Velocity at ArcGIS Enterprise 12.1

The enhancements in this section will not be available in ArcGIS Velocity for ArcGIS Online and are only available for self-hosted capabilities.

The following feed types are now supported by Velocity:

  • The TCP (Client) feed in Velocity receives events from a TCP server formatted as XML, JSON, or delimited text through a TCP socket connection. This feed provides functional equivalency with ArcGIS GeoEvent Server and supports reliable, continuous ingestion of streaming data where guaranteed delivery is required. It is well-suited for enterprise and operational systems where data integrity is critical.
  • The Watch a Folder for Local Files feed in Velocity is used to read event data from a local file. This feed provides the same functionality that exists in ArcGIS GeoEvent Server. It enables ingestion of file-based data from on-premises systems, legacy workflows, and fully disconnected environments without external network connectivity. It is especially relevant for defense, utilities, and government organizations operating in secure or restricted environments.
  • The HTTP Simulator feed allows users to transmit event data from a simulation text file or feature layer to a designated TCP socket. Based on the GeoEvent Simulator that comes with ArcGIS GeoEvent Server, which is only supported on Windows, this feed is supported on both Windows and Linux. The feed enables workflow validation, testing, and demonstration scenarios prior to production deployment

Data source:

The following data source type is now supported by Velocity:

  • The Read a Local File from a Folder data source in Velocity reads event data from a specified local file formatted as delimited text, JSON, or XML. This feed provides ArcGIS GeoEvent Server equivalency for file-based ingestion scenarios and is available only with ArcGIS Velocity for ArcGIS Enterprise.

Outputs

The following output types are now supported by Velocity:

  • The TCP (Client) outputs event records formatted as delimited text or JSON to a TCP server using a socket connection. This output provides ArcGIS GeoEvent Server equivalency and supports enterprise integration scenarios requiring reliable outbound delivery.
  • The UDP (Client) output sends event records to a UDP server formatted as delimited text or JSON. This output supports high‑throughput, low‑latency data delivery and is well suited for telemetry, sensor networks, and situational awareness workflows.
  • The Write to Local File output writes data from event records to a local file on disk. This provides equivalent functionality to ArcGIS GeoEvent Server, supporting file-based export workflows in on‑premise and disconnected environments. Metrics for resource utilization tracking

ArcGIS Velocity can be resource-intensive when ingesting large volumes of events per second, performing complex real-time analyses, or both. ArcGIS Velocity provides two dashboards, one for Compute and the other for Memory. These dashboards enable you to monitor your system health and resource allocation.

New functionality for ArcGIS Velocity at ArcGIS Enterprise 12.1 (and coming to ArcGIS Online in June 2026)

The enhancements in this section will also be available in ArcGIS Velocity for ArcGIS Online with the ArcGIS Online June 2026 update.

Feeds

  • The Dataminr feed creates a built‑in HTTP endpoint to receive real-time event alert from Dataminr, a platinum Esri partner, which detects breaking events from publicly available data sources. When ingested through ArcGIS Velocity, these alerts can be analyzed and visualized with lower latency than feature layer-based ingestion, enabling faster awareness of incidents that may affect operations, safety, or assets. Access to Dataminr data is purchased directly from Dataminr.
  • The Dataminr First Alert feed creates a built‑in HTTP endpoint to receive real-time alerts from the Dataminr First Alert product. This feed delivers critical event information with reduced latency compared to traditional notification methods or feature layer ingestion, supporting time‑sensitive decision-making for operational and safety use cases. Dataminr First Alert provides similar information to the Dataminr feed, but designed for public-sector use cases, emergency response, and first responders. Access to Dataminr First Alert is purchased directly from Dataminr.

Note: After configuring a Dataminr or Dataminr First Alert feed, you need to send your feed username, password, and HTTP endpoint URL to Dataminr Customer Service for them to push data to your feed. If the username or password is unavailable, create new credentials and provide them to Dataminr Customer Support.

Setting up a Dataminr feed is straightforward. Start by clicking to create a new feed, where you’ll find all the supported data sources. Select Data Providers, pick Dataminr, and enter your credentials for authentication. After connecting, Velocity will automatically sample incoming data and set up the schema for you. You’re free to keep the default field names or modify them if you wish. Click Next to review your setup, name your feed, and then select Complete. Before any data flows, you mush share your feed credentials and endpoint URL with your Dataminr representative to get the data flowing.

  • The Raven Connected feed simplifies ingesting data from Raven connected, a provider of real-time fleet, roadway, and work zone intelligence generated using AI from cameras deployed on commercial vehicle fleets. This feed enables ingestion of continuously detected lane closures, work zones, and traffic impacts, improving situational awareness and supporting real-time analytics for transportation and logistics workflows. Access to Raven Connected is purchased through the Raven Connected platform.

  • The IoTKinect feed enables users to ingest real-time device and sensor data aggregated by IoT Kinect. Because IoT Kinect handles the aggregation and schema normalization of various IoT devices and platforms, users have access to more real-time data. Access credentials are purchased through IoT Kinect.

ArcGIS GeoEvent Server is being deprecated

The ArcGIS Enterprise 12.3 release, expected in 2027, will be the final version of ArcGIS GeoEvent Server. Its retirement will follow the same life cycle as ArcGIS Enterprise 12.3 and will be retired according to the ArcGIS Enterprise product life cycle.
