1. Pre-conference Seminars
For many, the UC starts on Saturday. There are several of these hands-on workshops to choose from that are of interest to developers. Some are one-day, Saturday or Sunday, and some of them are for both days. For example, a two-day course for developers and GIS pros who want to learn how to build tools and automate tasks, the “Python Scripting for GIS People” is popular year after year. There are also other seminars of interest to developers designing, architecting, building, and testing systems like “Integrating IoT and ArcGIS” and “Leveraging Big Data in ArcGIS”. 2. Technical Sessions
Did you know that during the UC, there is a track of sessions designed to keep developers informed of the latest tools and capabilities for building apps? We took some of the more popular sessions from the Esri Developer Summit last March and brought them to San Diego. You can choose from sessions that cover web development using the ArcGIS API for JavaScript, native app development using the ArcGIS Runtime SDKs, as well as sessions on scripting with Python for building tools, managing data, automating tasks, as well as administering your Portal, its content, tools, and users throughout your organization.
3. Developer Island
Down in Hall B on the main Showcase floor of the convention center, you’ll find the Developer Island. There we’ll have machines, software, and many talented Esri staff to chat with, not only many of the developers and product engineers who build ArcGIS, but also folks like yourself who build on the ArcGIS platform every day. The island is divided into three areas: Desktop, Web, and Runtime. Esri staff are there to answer your questions, walk through demos of the present and future of ArcGIS developer tools, and show you lots of techniques you can take home and put to use right away.
4. Developer Demo Theater
In Hall B, Demo Theater 11 of the convention center is where you’ll find what is similar to a technical sessions, but shorter in time, smaller in size, and involve more niche topics. The idea of the demo theater is to make presentations more informal and interactive. Check the detailed agenda for topics we’ll be covering and the date and time of each.
5. GeoDev Meetup
Come hang out with developers! For the 6th year in a row, Wednesday evening is the GeoDev Meetup. After a long day of sessions, come on by and take in the scenic views of San Diego Bay at the Marriott Coronado Room and Terrace for a bite to eat, some popular bottled beers, and meeting developers like yourself to chat about your projects or whatever you’re up to.
