What comes to mind when we hear the term infrastructure management<\/em>? Planning new water mains? Running power plants? Balancing gas transmission lines? Restoring power failures? Rerouting communications signals? How about worrying about aging assets? The average age of 90,580 dams in America is 56 years old. Most electric power lines in the US were built between the 1950s and 1960s. Many of America’s drinking water pipes were laid in the early to mid-20th\u202fcentury. About 240,000 water main breaks occur per year. This wastes more than two trillion gallons of treated water. Even telecom relies on millions of aging wood poles.<\/p>\n

The American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) in its latest infrastructure scorecard gave the US a dismal D+.<\/p>\n

That’s the bad news. The good news is that over the last decade or so, utilities and telecoms are undergoing huge transformations\u2013digital transformations.
