This month there\u2019s a lot to love for fans of the sidecar block and some new capabilities in theme builder.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Accessibility conformance report (VPAT)<\/li>\n<li>Story navigation includes sidecar and credits headings<\/li>\n<li>New sidecar slide browser<\/li>\n<li>Link-style map actions<\/li>\n<li>Color picker<\/li>\n<li>Image separators<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2>Accessibility conformance report<\/h2>\n<p>Before getting to the new features, we wanted to announce that we recently released a VPAT, or <a href=\"https:\/\/www.section508.gov\/sell\/vpat\">Voluntary Product Accessibility Template<\/a>\u00a0for ArcGIS StoryMaps. A VPAT is a report that explains how a software product meets the US government\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.access-board.gov\/ict\/\">Section 508 Standards<\/a> for accessibility.<\/p>\n<p>This accessibility conformance report was prepared by a highly-qualified third-party contractor and represents the results of their detailed accessibility review of ArcGIS StoryMaps. The report can be\u00a0found in the <a href=\"https:\/\/doc.arcgis.com\/en\/arcgis-storymaps\/reference\/accessibility-and-supported-languages.htm\">reference section of the ArcGIS StoryMaps product documentation<\/a>, and there&#8217;s a direct link to the final report <a href=\"https:\/\/www.esri.com\/content\/dam\/esrisites\/en-us\/media\/legal\/vpats\/arcgis-storymaps-10-12-2020-vpat.pdf\">here<\/a>. This document will be a useful resource for anyone evaluating the use of ArcGIS StoryMaps in their organization.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2>Story navigation includes more types of headings<\/h2>\n<p>Enabling <a href=\"https:\/\/doc.arcgis.com\/en\/arcgis-storymaps\/author-and-share\/add-story-navigation.htm\">story navigation<\/a> adds links to the top of any story so readers can easily jump to a specific section. The navigation bar also tracks a reader\u2019s progress through a story by highlighting the current section.<\/p>\n<p>In addition to headings from the main narrative portions of a story, now <em>sidecar headings<\/em> and the <em>credits heading<\/em> are included in the list of navigation anchor points that can be enabled as story navigation links.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n"},{"acf_fc_layout":"youtube","start_time":"0","end_time":"","youtube_video_url":"<iframe title=\"Story Navigation: Include Headings in Sidecars and Credits\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/1bekBpRYycw?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>"},{"acf_fc_layout":"content","content":"<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Sidecar and credits headings will be enabled in any new stories you build. If you&#8217;d like sidecar or credits headings to appear as nav links in any of your existing stories, you can open the navigation options and enable them. And ICYMI, in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.esri.com\/arcgis-blog\/products\/arcgis-storymaps\/constituent-engagement\/whats-new-in-arcgis-storymaps-september-2020\/\">September<\/a>\u00a0the limit for story navigation links was increased to 30.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2>Sidecar slide browser<\/h2>\n<p>It&#8217;s often preferable to use a small number of slides in each section of a sidecar. This helps prevent readers from getting fatigued by having to scroll through a very long section with few words. However, there are cases where a longer sidecar section can work, such as tutorials and stories you create to use as presentations.<\/p>\n<p>For longer sidecars (5+ slides) that use the docked layout, you&#8217;ll now see a new slide navigation experience that makes it easier to move through sidecars quickly. Just click the slide summary, and a ribbon appears enabling readers to page through all the slides in the current sidecar. When ArcGIS StoryMaps debuted in 2019, a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.esri.com\/arcgis-blog\/products\/arcgis-storymaps\/mapping\/supercharge-your-stories-with-map-actions-beta\/\">new button-style incarnation of map actions<\/a> was born. We\u2019re working on bringing it to more places in future updates.<\/p>\n<p>ICYMI, over the last two months we introduced new ways to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.esri.com\/arcgis-blog\/products\/arcgis-storymaps\/constituent-engagement\/whats-new-in-arcgis-storymaps-october-2020\/\">style<\/a>\u00a0and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.esri.com\/arcgis-blog\/products\/arcgis-storymaps\/constituent-engagement\/whats-new-in-arcgis-storymaps-november-2020\/\">organize<\/a> express map features, so the new color picker will really come in handy for anyone taking advantage of these new capabilities.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2>Image separators<\/h2>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.esri.com\/arcgis-blog\/products\/arcgis-storymaps\/constituent-engagement\/whats-new-in-arcgis-storymaps-november-2020\/\">Last month<\/a>, we added new separator styles to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.esri.com\/arcgis-blog\/products\/arcgis-storymaps\/constituent-engagement\/tips-on-using-the-new-arcgis-storymaps-theme-builder\/\">theme builder<\/a>, which expanded the available options for providing breaks between story sections.
