On Kubernetes, there is no short- and long-term release. The product lifecycles for ArcGIS Enterprise on Windows or Linux remain the same with short- and long-term releases.<\/p>\n<p>One of our goals with the Kubernetes deployment option is to ease the process of performing release upgrades. An upgrade can be applied from the <a href=\"https:\/\/enterprise-k8s.arcgis.com\/en\/latest\/administer\/monitor-and-manage-your-organization.htm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">ArcGIS Enterprise Manager<\/a> which is uniquely available to customers running ArcGIS Enterprise on Kubernetes.<\/p>\n<p>When you first deploy and with each upgrade, there is no need to install additional software, libraries, or to manage individual servers or virtual machines. This greatly reduces the technical complexity and administrative effort. As you can see, the security because the product life cycle is much shorter than ArcGIS Enterprise in a server-based deployment. Each release is eligible for interim software updates and patches for about six months until the subsequent release. Esri provides technical support for each release for about one year until the second subsequent release.<\/p>\n<p>A key reason for the shorter life cycle is that managed Kubernetes services from providers are also updated frequently. Our software is designed to run using those services and related components. The need to keep your Kubernetes clusters current affects distributed applications running on them, such as ArcGIS Enterprise.<\/p>\n"},{"acf_fc_layout":"sidebar","content":"<p>Once a software version is retired, it is no longer eligible for technical support or updates, and must be upgraded. From an administrator&#8217;s standpoint, there are things Kubernetes can do that aren&#8217;t possible in a server-based architecture. This includes <a href=\"https:\/\/enterprise-k8s.arcgis.com\/en\/latest\/administer\/scale-services.htm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">scaling<\/a> individual services, automatic scaling in response to your thresholds and limits, built-in <a href=\"https:\/\/enterprise-k8s.arcgis.com\/en\/latest\/administer\/minimize-data-loss-and-downtime.htm#ESRI_SECTION1_6AD6913B832B4600A73985C40A47E14F\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">high availability<\/a>, and greatly accelerated deployments, <a href=\"https:\/\/enterprise-k8s.arcgis.com\/en\/latest\/administer\/understand-updates.htm#ESRI_SECTION1_1F2D0FB690974C5B934BA948F3DAFF5A\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">upgrades, and updates<\/a>.<\/p>\n"},{"acf_fc_layout":"sidebar","content":"<p>The Kubernetes and the server-based deployment options each have unique capabilities. However there are a few items apps or extensions not supported.
