The use of events allows vast<br \/>\namounts of scientific information to be linked to the NHD.<\/p>\n<p>The HEM tool handles all linear referencing mechanics to make working with events easy.&nbsp; It works on <i>point, line, and area<\/i> <i>events<\/i> and allows events to be located interactively, imported, or calculated.<\/p>\n<p>A number of state and federal partners have adopted HEM: <b>Environmental Protection Agency <\/b>(EPA) incorporated HEM to meet <b>Clean Water Act<\/b> reporting requirements, the <b>U.S. Forest Service<\/b> incorporated HEM functionality into their <b>National Resource Information System<\/b> (NRIS) <b>Aquatic Surveys<\/b> application, <b>Bureau of Land Management<\/b> (BLM) incorporated HEM to support event creation for its <b>Oregon\/Washington Aquatic Resource Information Management System<\/b><br \/>\n and is evaluating its use for a national Riparian Database, and the HEM<br \/>\n Tool is used to georeference water quality data to the NHD, and this<br \/>\ninformation is then used for <b>Section 303(d)<\/b> water quality reports on <b>impaired waters<\/b>.<\/p>\n<p>The<br \/>\n HEM effort is a unique collaboration between the BLM, U.S. Geological<br \/>\nSurvey (USGS), and the EPA that results in ongoing tool development and<br \/>\nsupport to the expanding HEM user community.<\/p>\n<p>The USGS provides basic to advanced HEM training with easy to follow exercises:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/my.usgs.gov\/Public\/HEM_Tools\/Training%20Materials\/HEM_GettingStarted.zip\" title=\"Getting Started\" target=\"_blank\"><b>Getting Started<\/b><\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/my.usgs.gov\/Public\/HEM_Tools\/Training%20Materials\/HEM_Full_Training.zip\" title=\"Full Training\" target=\"_blank\"><b>Full Training<\/b><\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/my.usgs.gov\/Public\/HEM_Tools\/Training%20Materials\/HEM_Data_Maintenance.zip\" title=\"Data Maintenance\" target=\"_blank\"><b>Data Maintenance<\/b><\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/my.usgs.gov\/Public\/HEM_Tools\/Training%20Materials\/Advanced_HEM_Editing.zip\" title=\"Advanced Editing\" target=\"_blank\"><b>Advanced Editing<\/b><\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>and additional user support in the <b><a href=\"https:\/\/my.usgs.gov\/Public\/HEM_Tools\/User%20Support\/Install_Troubleshoot_Guide_2.4.docx\" title=\"USGS: HEM Version 2.4 Troubleshooting Guide\">Troubleshooting Guide<\/a><\/b>.<\/p>\n<p>OR you can <i>request <\/i><a href=\"http:\/\/spreadsheets.google.com\/viewform?hl=en&amp;formkey=dEd2Rk9MS2wzcUpvOTRmcjR3S0ZEaWc6MA\" title=\"USGS: HEM Training Request\/Registration\"><i><b>training<\/b><\/i><\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/spreadsheets.google.com\/viewform?formkey=dExuTTlRR3NOZTAtSjdzS2hfb1F5UXc6MA\" title=\"USGS: HEM User Support Request\"><i><b>support<\/b><\/i><span style=\"font-family: 'Verdana','sans-serif'\"><\/span><\/a> on a specific HEM topic.<\/p>\n<p>To find out more information visit <a href=\"http:\/\/nhd.usgs.gov\/tools.html#hem\" title=\"USGS: Hydrography Event Management Tool\">USGS&#8217;s HEM site<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/nhd.usgs.gov\/tools.html#hem\" title=\"USGS: HEM Tool\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/downloads2.esri.com\/blogs\/images\/dev_22939.jpg\" alt=\"NHD Tools\" width=\"354\" align=\"left\" height=\"29\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><b><i>Special thanks to Ariel Bates for providing the post.
