Further proof of this point came from the annual meeting of the World Economic Forum in Davos, where water supply crises were ranked as one of the most likely and highest impact <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.weforum.org\/reports\/global-risks-2013-eighth-edition\">risks facing the world<\/a><\/strong>. To thrive sustainably, companies, investors, and governments need a deeper understanding of where and how water risks are emerging worldwide.<\/p>\n<p>The World Resources Institute\u2019s <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/aqueduct.wri.org\/\">Aqueduct<\/a><\/strong> water risk mapping tool provides unprecedented insight into the complexities of water risk. Aqueduct\u2019s global water risk maps are the product of three years of indicator development, data collection, and modeling. They bring together data on twelve different indicators of water risk \u2013 everything from water stress to drought to access to clean drinking water. A <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/aqueduct.wri.org\/atlas\">free online tool<\/a><\/strong> lets users from companies, investors, and beyond combine the twelve indicators together using preset or customized weights to create a global water risk map that is tailored to their specific concerns. Aqueduct is already being used by companies ranging from <a href=\"http:\/\/www.wri.org\/success-stories\/2012\/35-+of-mcdonalds-top-supply-chain-facilities-report-on-water-risk-exposure-using-wri-tool\">McDonald\u2019s<\/a> to <a href=\"http:\/\/aqueduct.wri.org\/about\/partners\">Goldman Sachs<\/a>, as well as the National Intelligence Council and academics and governments worldwide.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.esri.com\/arcgis-blog\/app\/uploads\/2013\/02\/Fig1.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-25540\" src=\"https:\/\/www.esri.com\/arcgis-blog\/app\/uploads\/2013\/02\/Fig1.jpg\" alt=\"Water Risk\" width=\"676\" height=\"379\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Aqueduct is the most up-to-date, comprehensive, and granular water risk mapping platform available today. It features:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>High-resolution maps that display data for 15,000 geographic units worldwide<\/li>\n<li>Data for a peer-reviewed framework of twelve water risk indicators<\/li>\n<li>Pre-set and customizable indicator weightings, so that the risk analysis is tailored to your interests or the industry you work in.<\/li>\n<li>The ability to compare water risk levels between specific locations by adding them manually, or importing sites (up to 250 at a time) from a spreadsheet<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.esri.com\/arcgis-blog\/app\/uploads\/2013\/02\/Fig2.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-25541\" src=\"https:\/\/www.esri.com\/arcgis-blog\/app\/uploads\/2013\/02\/Fig2.jpg\" alt=\"Comparing Water Risk\" width=\"719\" height=\"416\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>Putting Complex Data at your Fingertips<\/strong><br \/>\nAqueduct is designed to make scientific and complex research easily accessible and understandable. Our online mapping tool uses ESRI\u2019s web technology and is easy to use and intuitive, even for non-experts in the world of water. In addition, WRI makes all of the data and methodology behind Aqueduct transparent and publicly available \u2013 including the GIS shape files which can be downloaded from our website. Our goal is to put the best data available on water risk into the right hands \u2013 in companies, investors, governments, academia, and beyond \u2013 where it can be used to drive more sustainable water strategies worldwide.
