Each district is a distinct category, and therefore has a distinct color: <b><span style=\"color: #6dc4ae\">District 1<\/span><\/b>, <b><span style=\"color: #37a9b7\">District 2<\/span><\/b>, <b><span style=\"color: #d68989\">District 3<\/span><\/b>, <b><span style=\"color: #bc7eba\">District 4<\/span><\/b>, <b><span style=\"color: #f97b60\">District 5<\/span><\/b>, <b><span style=\"color: #7df9eb\">District 6<\/span><\/b>, and <b><span style=\"color: #a1d77e\">District 7<\/span><\/b>.<\/p>\n<h2>Polygons<\/h2>\n<p>An example of a categorical map containing polygons is <a href=\"https:\/\/www.arcgis.com\/apps\/mapviewer\/index.html?webmap=063cdb28dd3a449b92bc04f904256f62\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">this map of Historical Neighborhood Redlining Grades<\/a>, a neighborhood ranking system created in the 1930s now infamously known as redlining. This can come through in your map&#8217;s colors and symbols. For example, in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.arcgis.com\/apps\/mapviewer\/index.html?webmap=118536b20f7e4a79a4423438dc1d2401\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">this map of payday lending policies<\/a> by state, notice the two legal categories <b>(<span style=\"color: #42707a\">legal with limits on finance charges<\/span><\/b> and <b><span style=\"color: #404f5a\">legal with no limit on finance charges)<\/span><\/b> are in different shades of teal, and the <b><span style=\"color: #f0ce75\">illegal<\/span><\/b> category is in a completely different color: yellow. There are two ways to include size into your map:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Edit each category&#8217;s symbol by hand, applying a different size to each category.<\/li>\n<li>Choose a second numeric attribute to drive each feature&#8217;s size across all categories.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.arcgis.com\/apps\/mapviewer\/index.html?webmap=239a3076c9f54dac99f5beb59dfc5dd3\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">This map of hospitals by Medicare quality score<\/a> is an example of the first way to incorporate size. We emphasized the hospitals with a 5-star quality rating with an outline and a bigger size. Also, these categories have a natural order to the categories here: 1 star to 5 stars. Therefore, the colors and sizes also have a natural order to them.
