Did you know you can easily create many of the demos we present at conferences?<\/em><\/p>\n

At FedUC 2018, Madeline Schueren, from the Esri Geodesign team, showed some of the many ways you can leverage 3D point cloud data. In her demo, she showcased how to use this dynamic type of 3D data in Scene Viewer to make decisions.<\/p>\n

In her 3D web scene demo<\/a>, Madeline introduced a web map with data from Schiedam, Netherlands. The data consisted of a collection of citywide LiDAR supplied by CycloMedia, a company specializing in collecting LiDAR over entire cities using terrestrial laser scanning.\u00a0Lidar data is readily available in ArcGIS Online and can easily be added to a web scene, accessible via computer or mobile device.<\/p>\n

Step 1- Make a web scene<\/h2>\n

1. Sign into\u00a0your ArcGIS organizational account.
\nIf you don\u2019t have an account, get a free trial<\/a>.<\/p>\n

2. At the top of ArcGIS Online, click Scene <\/strong>.
\nA new web scene opens.<\/p>\n

3. To view Schiedam data, you need to use a local scene. The LiDAR data is in a projection suitable for the Netherlands, and can\u2019t be shown in the default WGS 1984 projection.

5. In the Designer<\/strong> pane, click Add Layers<\/strong>.
\n6. Click My Content<\/strong> and choose ArcGIS Online<\/strong>. Search for Schiedam RGB<\/em>.
\nAll the results in your map view will be represented by pins.<\/p>\n

7. Note \u2013 you\u2019ll see a Data Mismatch window. This is because the default local scene shows the United States and your newly added data is in the Netherlands.<\/p>\n

The layers you are adding have a different spatial reference and tiling scheme than the basemap and default elevation.<\/p>\n

8. Click Drop<\/strong> to remove the default elevation and add your new layers. Note\u2014 Web scenes can\u2019t project data on the fly, so all layers you add must be in the same projection, or they won\u2019t appear on the map.<\/p>\n

9. In the Add Data<\/strong> pane, search for\u00a0Topo RD<\/em>.<\/p>\n

10. Find the Tile Layer result from Esri_Nederland and add it to the scene.<\/p>\n
