Big data can so often come with big problems \u2013 particularly for understanding data in context, and how one individual item within it relates to another. Supply chain networks and airline companies analyze vast transportation networks with innumerable components and variables in order to calculate shortest path and partitioning to optimize routes for speed, efficiency, and cost. Oil and gas companies need to account for hidden and pervasive risks associated with myriad factors including types of equipment, tools, manufacturers, locations, operating conditions, personnel, and more. And in a world of ever-growing e-commerce, marketplaces and financial institutions need to be able to identify behaviors that might indicate fraudulent or unlawful activity connected to any of the countless transactions they oversee in a day – and they need to do it quickly.<\/p>\n

For problems of this scale and intricacy, having the ability to create knowledge graphs and conduct graph analysis, or investigations, is essential. Graph analysis consolidates data from multiple different sources (think anything from e-commerce transactions to social media posts) and creates a network of relationships between different entities that can reveal patterns we might not otherwise be able to see. And for the first time, Esri is offering a knowledge graph tool that can be implemented directly into any existing ArcGIS Enterprise environment: the all-new ArcGIS Knowledge User Type Extension.<\/p>\n

What are knowledge graphs?<\/h2>\n

So, what is a knowledge graph? A knowledge graph is comprised of people, places, or other types of entities and the relationships that connect them in a graph network, allowing users to see data in context and reveal patterns and relationships that may have previously been unknown.<\/p>\n

ArcGIS Knowledge connects ArcGIS Pro to the enterprise graph store, enabling users to explore and analyze spatial, nonspatial, unstructured, and structured data to accelerate decision-making. ArcGIS Knowledge enables analysts to create, edit, interrogate, and analyze knowledge graphs to assist in investigations within industries ranging from AEC, Financial Services, Manufacturing, Oil & Gas, and Government.<\/p>\n
