ArcGIS Enterprise 11.0 doesn\u2019t just include new features<\/a>, it also includes something new altogether within the final release: beta features.\u00a0 This is the first time we\u2019ve included beta features in a final release of the software.\u00a0 Read on for more information on what beta features are, considerations for using them, how to provide feedback, and what specific beta features you can experience in this latest release of ArcGIS Enterprise.<\/p>\n

What are beta features<\/h1>\n

Wondering what is the difference between beta features and beta programs?<\/strong><\/p>\n

Why are there beta features in a general availability release?:<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Beta features in general availability releases are increasingly common across the software industry. Beta features allow for real-world testing and feedback to be introduced before the features become generally available, ensuring more stable and reliable releases. Including beta features in ArcGIS Enterprise allows us to guide the development of new features with real customer feedback to make sure these new features meet our customers’ needs. Beta features also provide customers with an early look into new features without having to wait for their general availability release. Beta functionality in ArcGIS Enterprise is not expected to introduce any security concerns, but we understand some customers may have restrictions on using software with beta features. Beta features are limited to short-term support releases of ArcGIS Enterprise on Windows and Linux.\u00a0 You can expect support for beta releases until the next release of ArcGIS Enterprise becomes available.\u00a0 For example, ArcGIS Enterprise 11.0 is a short-term support release; the beta features in this release will be supported until ArcGIS Enterprise 11.1 becomes available.<\/p>\n

Beta features in ArcGIS Enterprise provide an early view into future functionality and give you an opportunity to us your feedback \u2013 and your feedback is very important to us, as it will help guide the development these features.<\/p>\n

With this specific purpose in mind, it is important to know that beta features may not be feature complete and may have known performance or quality issues.<\/p>\n

There are certain considerations to take into account when using a beta feature.\u00a0 Although we do not recommend beta features be used in production environments, we ask that you carefully consider the following caveats if you are choosing to use beta features in a production environment in your organization:<\/p>\n
