Have you taken a closer look at the new dockable\u00a0Results Window<\/a>\u00a0in 10?<\/p>\n

The results window does so much more than let you check the messages of past tool, model and script execution.\u00a0\u00a0It stores past geoprocessing history including current, canceled and queued tools; a spot to re-run tools; copy code snippets\u00a0as well as\u00a0<\/em><\/i>a place to check results. The window is especially useful for monitoring tool execution for background processing.<\/p>\n

The window is broken into three sections; Current Session, Previous Sessions, and Not Run.<\/p>\n

Current Session<\/h3>\n

Lists all geoprocessing results for the Current Session.<\/p>\n

Previous Session<\/h3>\n

Tools that were executed previously have results saved here. The length of time these results remain saved depends on the\u00a0Results Management<\/em><\/i>\u00a0setting from the\u00a0Geoprocessing Options<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Not Run<\/h3>\n

This node represents tools which were started but then stopped (eg. ArcCatalog was closed while a background job was processing).<\/p>\n

So what do the icons mean?<\/h3>\n
    \n
  • Clock\u00a0<\/strong>\u2013 Queued or pending tools waiting to execute<\/li>\n
  • Clock with green<\/strong>\u00a0\u2013 Approximate percentage of tool completion<\/li>\n
  • Hourglass<\/strong>\u00a0\u2013\u00a0A tool starting to execute<\/li>\n
  • Colored script<\/strong>\u00a0–\u00a0A script tool successfully ran<\/li>\n
  • Circle with Red-X<\/strong>\u00a0\u2013\u00a0A tool which failed to execute due to errors<\/li>\n
  • Yellow exclamation mark<\/strong>\u00a0\u2013\u00a0A tool which executed but has warnings<\/li>\n
  • Colored Hammer<\/strong>\u00a0\u2013 Successfully completed tool<\/li>\n
  • Uncolored<\/strong>\u00a0(hollow icons) \u2013 Tools which haven\u2019t been executed<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

    Tool Context Menu (Right Click)<\/h3>\n

    By Right clicking each tool (whether it be queued, running or finished), you\u2019ll be presented with a list of options.<\/p>\n

      \n
    • Open<\/strong>\u00a0\u2013 Open the tool dialogue (with populated parameters based on the tool execution)<\/li>\n
    • Copy<\/strong>\u00a0\u2013 Useful for copying the tool execution into a model<\/li>\n
    • Remove\u00a0<\/strong>\u2013 Keep the data, remove only the result<\/li>\n
    • Re-name<\/strong>\u00a0\u2013 Change the name of your tool execution to something more informative<\/li>\n
    • Copy as Python Snippet<\/strong>\u00a0\u2013 Acts as an incredibly powerful \u201ccopy\u201d. Generates into your computer\u2019s clipboard the complete Python syntax to execute the tool along with the supplied parameters. This can be very useful when writing Python scripts as it will save time figuring out syntax and parameter order<\/li>\n
    • Delete<\/strong>\u00a0\u2013 Delete both the result and any output datasets<\/li>\n
    • Re-run<\/strong>\u00a0\u2013 Queue or start the tool to execute again with previously entered parameters<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

      Even More<\/h3>\n

      The last bit of functionality is the ability to drag and drop from the results window. You can drag input and outputs directly from the results window into the Map display, Table of Contents, ModelBuilder, and even the Python window.
