Make sure you are in the Layout View.<br \/>\n2. In the Insert Menu, click Legend.<br \/>\n3. Follow the Legend Wizard to choose the map layers, map title, legend frame, symbol patch, and spacing. You can choose all defaults setting if you want. When you are done, a vertical legend will appear.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/downloads2.esri.com\/blogs\/images\/dev_23783.jpg\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/downloads2.esri.com\/blogs\/images\/dev_23783.jpg\" alt=\"\" align=\"middle\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>Making It Horizontal<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>1. Right-click on the legend, and click Properties.<br \/>\n2. Click on the Items tab.<br \/>\n3. Highlight\/select the layers you want to display with a horizontal legend, and then click Style.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/downloads2.esri.com\/blogs\/images\/dev_23784.jpg\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/downloads2.esri.com\/blogs\/images\/dev_23784.jpg\" alt=\"\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>4. Choose which horizontal style you want to use. The first option (Horizontal Bar with\u00a0 Heading, Labels, and Description) usually fits the stretched renderer well.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/downloads2.esri.com\/blogs\/images\/dev_23785.jpg\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/downloads2.esri.com\/blogs\/images\/dev_23785.jpg\" alt=\"\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>5. Optionally, click on the Properties button to customize the text. My preference are as follows:<br \/>\na. On the General tab, check on Show Layer Name and check off Show Heading.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/downloads2.esri.com\/blogs\/images\/dev_23786.jpg\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/downloads2.esri.com\/blogs\/images\/dev_23786.jpg\" alt=\"\" align=\"middle\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>b. Under the Bar tab, choose 0 degrees for Angle of Text below the bar.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/downloads2.esri.com\/blogs\/images\/dev_23787.jpg\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/downloads2.esri.com\/blogs\/images\/dev_23787.jpg\" alt=\"\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>6. Click OK three times (to exit all the windows).
