Emergency Management Special Interest Group (SIG) Meeting (sponsored by IBM) at the Esri International User Conference I gave a talk on\u00a0<strong><em>Tools for Social Media<\/em><\/strong>.\u00a0 Many of you were interested in the tools so I wanted to share the links via this blog.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Public Information Map<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The first tool we talked about was the Public Information Map.\u00a0 This application is something that we have developed over time to include live mapping in support of our\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.esri.com\/disaster\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Disaster Response Program website<\/a>.\u00a0 The Public Information Map is available as a template that you can\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.arcgis.com\/home\/item.html?id=f9a10a4ca542432ba180309dd5108d5d\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">download and configure<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/downloads2.esri.com\/blogs\/images\/dev_24899.jpg\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/downloads2.esri.com\/blogs\/images\/dev_24899.jpg\" alt=\"\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>There are many live examples of the Public Information Map that you can visit now with current information in support of our Disaster Response Program.\u00a0 target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">blog post<\/a>\u00a0on lessons learned applying this template.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Social Media Widget<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Social Media is on a path to evolve to become another critical source of situational awareness just like weather.\u00a0 A\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/esriurl.com\/SMWidget\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Social Media Widget<\/a>\u00a0has been developed to be able to bring in Social Media into command and control applications, such as the\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/esriurl.com\/COPTemplate\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Common Operational Picture Template<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Here is an example of the Social Media widget in action during the National Level Exercise we tracked the Commonwealth of Kentucky Division of Emergency Management Public Information Officer as she traveled around the State with the Brigadier General:<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/downloads2.esri.com\/blogs\/images\/dev_24897.jpg\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/downloads2.esri.com\/blogs\/images\/dev_24897.jpg\" alt=\"\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>ArcGIS.com Tweet Mapping Template<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>As described in this previous\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.esri.com\/Support\/blogs\/arcgisonline\/archive\/2011\/05\/02\/tweet-mapping-template.aspx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">ArcGIS Online blog<\/a>, you can add Twitter to your ArcGIS.com map.\u00a0 Simply create your ArcGIS.com web map and then share using the\u00a0<a><strong>Azure Twitter<\/strong>\u00a0template<\/a>.\u00a0\u00a0 Here\u2019s an example from the #EsriUC and the 5K Fun Run\/Walk:<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/downloads2.esri.com\/blogs\/images\/dev_24896.jpg\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/downloads2.esri.com\/blogs\/images\/dev_24896.jpg\" alt=\"\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>Ushahidi ArcGIS Desktop Add-In<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Often times during disasters we will stand up a Trends Map, such as this\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.esri.com\/en-us\/disaster-response\/disasters\/earthquakes\">example from Japan<\/a>, where we can look at the density of Ushahidi reports visualized as a heat map.\u00a0 During the flooding in Australia, we took this one step further and put together an\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.esri.com\/Dev\/blogs\/arcgisdesktop\/archive\/2010\/05\/05\/Add_2D00_ins-for-ArcGIS-Desktop-10.aspx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">ArcGIS Desktop Add-In<\/a>for Ushahidi data so you could export Ushahidi data in to a local geodatabase to do further analysis.\u00a0 The\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.arcgis.com\/home\/item.html?id=a4be04e2824d458bbb075d25d0b398c8\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Add-In for Australia flooding<\/a>example can be found on ArcGIS.com.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/downloads2.esri.com\/blogs\/images\/dev_24900.jpg\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/downloads2.esri.com\/blogs\/images\/dev_24900.jpg\" alt=\"\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>We are actively working with the Ushahidi community to make this tool more generic and broadly available.\u00a0 Stay tuned for more information.<\/p>\n<p><strong>ArcGIS Explorer Twitter Add-In<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.arcgis.com\/home\/item.html?id=97e7f63252c3455b98439821340d9b50\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">ArcGIS Explorer Twitter Add-In<\/a>\u00a0was updated just before the User Conference.\u00a0 Here\u2019s an example screenshot of a slightly earlier version of the tool from when FEMA Administrator Craig Fugate (<a href=\"http:\/\/twitter.com\/CraigAtFEMA\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">@CraigAtFEMA<\/a>) came to visit Esri last year.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/downloads2.esri.com\/blogs\/images\/dev_24898.jpg\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/downloads2.esri.com\/blogs\/images\/dev_24898.jpg\" alt=\"\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>There you have it, a tour of some of the Social Media Tools<br \/>\nand
