These new formats offered web developers an easy way to extend existing APIs \u2013 and since then has grown to be widely adopted across many services including\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/dev.twitter.com\/rest\/reference\/post\/statuses\/update\">Twitter<\/a>,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/help.github.com\/articles\/mapping-geojson-files-on-github\/\">GitHub<\/a>\u00a0and many visualization tools such as\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/github.com\/mbostock\/d3\/wiki\/Geo-Paths\">D3<\/a>. While not an\u00a0<em>official<\/em>\u00a0standard, GeoJSON has clearly become a\u00a0<em>de facto<\/em>\u00a0standard on the web.<\/p>\n<p>Adding a new format to ArcGIS is an important milestone. Building enterprise software means making a promise that our solution will support the standard for many years and across our entire platform. We consider all standards about their adoption, flexibility, impact, and maintainability. It\u2019s clear that GeoJSON justifies the engineering and support effort and we are excited that ArcGIS can now support these applications making it easier for data providers and developers to use our services in as many tools as possible.<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"geojson_capabilities\">GeoJSON capabilities<\/h2>\n<p>GeoJSON support is available in ArcGIS Online as a format to upload and create new hosted services in your web maps, or as a download format from existing services. This will be available in future versions of ArcGIS Server as well as other client applications, desktop tools and developer libraries.<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"learn_more\">Learn more<\/h2>\n<p>You can read the technical details and walk through of\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/geonet.esri.com\/groups\/geodev\/blog\/2014\/12\/11\/new-geojson-and-interop-capabilities-for-arcgis-online\">how to use GeoJSON on GeoNet<\/a>. If you want to explore more support for GeoJSON, ArcGIS Open Data also\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.esri.com\/esri\/arcgis\/2014\/04\/24\/arcgis-open-data-beta\/\">supports GeoJSON<\/a>\u00a0for all open layer datasets. Our\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/github.com\/esri\/terraformer\">open-source Terraformer javascript library<\/a>\u00a0makes it easy to convert other ArcGIS Services into GeoJSON and\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/github.com\/esri\/koop\">Koop<\/a>\u00a0can be used to convert third-party APIs into both GeoJSON and Feature Services. Our existing GeoServices specification is also JSON and will continue to be grown and
