For example, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.arcgis.com\/apps\/mapviewer\/index.html?webmap=9d192b0bcb67477093d494324be719d8\">check out this map<\/a> which is the Esri <a href=\"https:\/\/www.arcgis.com\/home\/item.html?id=10df2279f9684e4a9f6a7f08febac2a9\">World Imagery<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.arcgis.com\/home\/item.html?id=7dc6cea0b1764a1f9af2e679f642f0f5\">World Topographic Basemap<\/a> mixed hybrid approach allows the best of both types of basemaps.\u00a0 You get the context of reality while subtracting out everything else with a simplified digital representation.<\/p>\n<p>The way this map was designed was at the global scale, the land is masked out by the Topographic Map.\u00a0 Then as you zoom in, the beautiful World Imagery is revealed using opacity driven land and vegetation layers from the Topographic Map.\u00a0 This allows the basemap to be in a good position to have other data placed over it <em>(Note for a good working example, this is how the basemap for the <a href=\"https:\/\/livingatlas.arcgis.com\/wildfireware\/\">Wildfire Aware app<\/a> was working on the map above, I came across another visualization that I thought was really intriguing.\u00a0 Check out what happens when you combine <a href=\"https:\/\/www.esri.com\/arcgis-blog\/products\/arcgis-living-atlas\/announcements\/whats-new-in-esri-vector-basemaps-july-2022\/\">World Contours<\/a> and World Imagery, it looks like it was outlined with a pen by a terrain artist.\u00a0 These contours help accentuate the land very elegantly.\u00a0 They don&#8217;t come on until 1:72,224 and then wow!\u00a0 It&#8217;s like the depressions and cliffs come alive!\u00a0 I&#8217;m seeing things that I don&#8217;t normally see in the imagery and I really love our purposes we are only interested in a few layers that are found within Natural, Land Use, and Water categories.\u00a0 You could use the Editor to go in and turn off all of the unneeded layers one by one, but it\u2019s faster to remove them directly from the code using the JSON layer, so that it goes from 25% opacity at \u201c0 Zoom\u201d to 0% 0pacity at \u201c11 Zoom\u201d.\u00a0 This layer certainly adds texture to the map and embellishes the mountain areas; however, when you zoom all the way in at Scale 11 and just want to see the pure Imagery it disappears. \u00a0<em>Take note that the Hillshade layer also covers the Ocean and Bathymetry layers and there is more on
