With the February 2024 update of ArcGIS Online, Near Me widget added some great enhancements,\u00a0 including some functional parities with Near Me, Info Summary, Situation Awareness and Screening Web AppBuilder widgets. We have implemented list virtualization to improve performance, added support for map symbols and many more. We also organized the configuration experience for greater usability and better user experience. Please visit this community post<\/a> if you want to learn more about what is new in Near Me in February 2024 ArcGIS Online update. As you migrate to Experience Builder, you can leverage these new functionalities for your Situation Awareness workflows in Experience Builder.<\/p>\n

Let us assume you have a Web Appbuilder App that is used by emergency management personnel to understand the impact of an incident on public infrastructure and human populations and sharing that information with other users in the EOC.\u00a0You want to migrate this app to Experience Builder. Here\u2019s how to do it :<\/p>\n

Create a new app<\/strong><\/h2>\n

First, you\u2019ll create an app in Experience Builder:<\/p>\n

    \n
  1. Sign into your ArcGIS account.<\/li>\n
  2. From the Content<\/strong> page, click Create app<\/strong> and click Experience Builder<\/strong>.<\/li>\n
  3. Click Create New<\/strong>.<\/li>\n
  4. Choose a mapcentric template and click Create<\/strong>.\u00a0See an example of an application<\/a> using the Blank fullscreen template. Near Me is mapcentric widget, so you need to add at least one map with a feature layer.<\/li>\n
  5. In your application, add a Map<\/strong> widget.\u00a0For my application, I chose a map<\/a> that has facilities, infrastructure and demographic data.<\/li>\n
  6. Add the Near Me <\/strong>widget and connect it to the map.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

     <\/p>\n

    Add and configure the Search widget<\/strong><\/h2>\n

    Next, you\u2019ll add a way for users to search an address or an existing feature and use that as incident location.<\/p>\n

      \n
    1. Add the Search<\/strong> widget to the map.<\/li>\n
    2. In the Search<\/strong> panel, click New search source<\/strong> and choose Locator source<\/strong>.<\/li>\n
    3. Click Select utility<\/strong> and select a geocode locator. In my application, I used ArcGIS World Geocoding Service.<\/li>\n
    4. Click New search source<\/strong> again and choose Layer source<\/strong>, and then configure the source.\u00a0I chose Hospitals layer.<\/li>\n
    5. If your layer source is a feature layer, make sure that Enable filtering for layer search source <\/strong>is turned off.<\/li>\n
    6. Expand Search result. <\/strong><\/li>\n
    7. Make sure Auto select the first result <\/strong>is enabled. <\/strong><\/li>\n
    8. Click the Action<\/strong> tab and click Add a trigger<\/strong>.<\/li>\n
    9. Click Record selection changes<\/strong>.<\/li>\n
    10. For Select a target<\/strong>, click Near Me <\/strong>and then click Set location<\/strong> as the action.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

      Configure the Near Me widget<\/strong><\/h2>\n

      Now that you\u2019ve created your app, you\u2019ll configure the Near Me widget by configuring the map, search, and analysis settings.<\/p>\n

      Configure Analysis settings<\/strong><\/h3>\n
        \n
      1. Click on the Near Me<\/strong>.<\/li>\n
      2. In the Content panel, under Analysis Settings<\/strong>, select your map.<\/li>\n
      3. Click the map to configure its settings.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

         <\/p>\n

        Define a search method<\/strong><\/p>\n

          \n
        1. Make sure the Specify a location<\/strong> option is selected.<\/li>\n
        2. Change the Heading label<\/strong>, default is Location. I used Incident location<\/li>\n
        3. Set the Default Search distance<\/strong> and Distance units<\/strong>. I set my default distance to 2 miles.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

           <\/p>\n

          Configure analysis for layers<\/strong><\/p>\n

          Setting up analyses is the key step when configuring the Near Me widget; the widget will not work until at least one analysis is configured. To configure the analysis settings, follow these steps:<\/p>\n

          Configure Closest feature analysis<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n

            \n
          1. Click on Add Analysis<\/strong> button.<\/li>\n
          2. Select the Hospitals layer.<\/li>\n
          3. Set a Label<\/strong> for the analysis. I used Closest Hospital.<\/li>\n
          4. From the Analysis Types<\/strong>, choose Closest Feature, <\/strong>Click OK.<\/strong><\/li>\n
          5. Click X<\/strong> button on Edit Analysis<\/strong> panel to go back to main Analysis panel.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

            2. Select the layer. I chose Shelters layer<\/li>\n
            3. Enter a Label<\/strong> for the analysis.\u00a0I set Nearby shelters.<\/li>\n
            4. From the Analysis Types<\/strong> , choose Proximity<\/strong>.<\/li>\n
            5. From Display field<\/strong> dropdown, choose a field to be used as feature title.\u00a0I chose Name.<\/li>\n
            6. Click to enable Group features<\/strong> and select a field.\u00a0I chose Status to group features based on each shelter\u2019s operational status.<\/li>\n
            7. Enable Expand analysis results<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

              Configure Summary Analysis <\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n

                \n
              1. Click on Add Analysis<\/strong> button.<\/li>\n
              2. Select the USA Block Groups layer.<\/li>\n
              3. Enter a Label<\/strong>, I set Vulnerable population.<\/li>\n
              4. From the Analysis Types<\/strong>, choose Summary<\/strong>.<\/li>\n
              5. Click on Add Summary. <\/strong><\/li>\n
              6. From Statistics tab, choose an Operator<\/strong> and a Field, <\/strong>click Insert.\u00a0<\/strong>I used Total population in 2020 as label, sum as operator and chose POP2020 as the field.<\/li>\n
              7. From the Edit Analysis<\/strong> panel, click the Pencil<\/strong> (Edit expression)<\/strong> icon on the Summary card just created to format numbers and format numbers by clicking on the Gear<\/strong> icon from bottom left, click Insert<\/strong>. I set the decimal places to 0. Same way, you can configure multiple summary fields by following the steps from 5 to 8. I created three additional summary fields to show Children under 5 years, Seniors over 85 years and Number of households.<\/li>\n
              8. Disable Highlight results on map<\/strong>.<\/li>\n
              9. Enable Expand analysis results <\/strong>and click OK.<\/strong><\/li>\n
              10. Save the application.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

                Configure message action<\/strong><\/p>\n

                In October update we added support for Near Me to emit message action to communicate with other widgets. In your app, you can set up message action so when user clicks on a single feature from the result list in Near Me, the map will pan and flash to that feature.<\/p>\n

                  \n
                1. Click on the\u00a0Action<\/strong>\u00a0tab in Near Me widget<\/li>\n
                2. Make sure Message action tab is selected.<\/li>\n
                3. Click on\u00a0Add a trigger<\/strong><\/li>\n
                4. Select\u00a0Record selection changes<\/strong><\/li>\n
                5. From Widgets list, select Map.<\/li>\n
                6. Select\u00a0Pan to<\/strong>\u00a0as an action<\/li>\n
                7. Make sure that\u00a0 your layer is listed in the Trigger data section, optionally set custom zoom scale. Close Action Settings tab.<\/li>\n
                8. Click again on\u00a0+ Add action<\/strong>\u00a0button again and add flash action. Make sure to select your layer for Trigger data and Action data.<\/li>\n
                9. Save app.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

                   <\/p>\n

                  Understand the impact of an incident <\/strong><\/h2>\n

                  Finally, you\u2019ll verify that the Near Me widget works as expected.<\/p>\n

                    \n
                  1. Launch the app.<\/li>\n
                  2. In the Search<\/strong> widget, search an address or location.<\/li>\n
                  3. Notice that the configured analysis results are presented on the widget panel. As an alternative, a user can drop a point for incident location,<\/li>\n
                  4. Or you can select a feature on the map, once the pop-up opens, click on the Actions menu from top left corner of the pop-up, right click and select Set location <\/strong>to use that feature as input location.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

                     <\/p>\n

                    In my application I entered Baltimore, MD in search widget. Click on the result and it is then used as an Incident location in the widget and following analysis results were presented.<\/p>\n

                    \u2022 Closest hospital to the incident location
                    \n\u2022 Nearby shelters within 2 miles
                    \n\u2022 Vulnerable population<\/p>\n

                    5. Click on the top Export icon to create a report or download data in different formats (<\/strong>A<\/strong>t this moment, Near Me widget do not support export format setting at the application or layer level. At the layer level only export CSV is supported and at the batch export level\u00a0 all formats are always available.)<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n
