Design revisions allow the collection to be more versatile for mapping and understanding hydrology and other environmental variables.<\/p>\n"},{"acf_fc_layout":"content","content":"<h2>They\u2019re Carto-logical<\/h2>\n<p>The cartography for the six layers provides further clarity of the terrain, especially when drawn with other Living Atlas layers &#8211; <a href=\"https:\/\/www.arcgis.com\/home\/item.html?id=f1f45a3ba37a4f03a5f48d7454e4b654\">National Hydrography Dataset<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.arcgis.com\/home\/item.html?id=f2d114f071904e1fa11b4bb215dc08f3\">National Land Cover Tree Canopy Cover<\/a> and terrain relief. The six polygon layers are designed to work together &#8211; so that the layers nest visually and logically within one another &#8211; but they also can stand alone as a legible boundary layer in your map. We used <a href=\"https:\/\/pro.arcgis.com\/en\/pro-app\/latest\/tool-reference\/spatial-analyst\/zonal-statistics-as-table.htm\">zonal statistics as table<\/a> in ArcGIS Pro, the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.arcgis.com\/home\/item.html?id=e6ab693056a9465cbc3b26414f0ddd2c\">WorldClim annual precipitation<\/a> layer in the Living Atlas, and a 1km cellsize, to find the mean annual rainfall of every subbasin (HUC8) in the lower 48 states.<\/p>\n<p>We found the driest subbasin overall is the Lower Colorado, just north of Yuma, Arizona. Using the new WBD layers in ArcGIS Pro with the Add Spatial Join geoprocessing tool, we summed up the number of sites from the National Priority List within each basin.
