We are regularly enhancing the Near Me widget in Experience Builder to achieve the same level of functionality as the Near Me, Info Summary, Screening, and Situation Awareness widgets in Web AppBuilder. In the February 2025 update, we added support to export Near Me results as PDF file. If you do not need advanced reporting capabilities, want better performance, and do not need to customize the print layout, exporting to a .PDF<\/span>\u00a0file with the\u00a0Export<\/span>\u00a0data action is the simplest way to generate a report. Files include a title, map, legend, and Near Me widget analysis results. Additionally, if you turn off\u00a0Allow export<\/span>\u00a0for a layer, data from that layer does not appear in a PDF export.<\/p>\n

But if you need advanced reporting capabilities and customized print layout, you can use Enterprise 11.3 or higher custom print service. Please follow this blog<\/a> to create and publish a custom print service with reporting capability, we will use this to generate preliminary environmental impact assessment report in our sample app<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Let us assume you have a Web Appbuilder app that allows users to find out potential environmental impact of a proposed development project and you would like to migrate the app to Experience Builder. Please follow the steps below to achieve that goal.<\/p>\n

Create a new app<\/strong><\/h2>\n

First, you\u2019ll create an app in Experience Builder:<\/p>\n

    \n
  1. Sign into your ArcGIS account.<\/li>\n
  2. From the Content page, click Create app<\/strong> and click Experience Builder<\/strong>.<\/li>\n
  3. Click Create New<\/strong>.<\/li>\n
  4. Choose a mapcentric template and click Create<\/strong>. I chose plateau template from Web AppBuilder classic template collection for my sample app.<\/li>\n
  5. In your app, add a Map<\/strong> widget. Select a map.<\/li>\n
  6. From the Map widget Content<\/strong> tab, make sure Enable client-side query<\/strong> is Enabled for your map.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    I chose a map<\/a> that has at-risk species, environmentally sensitive and protected features in Maryland state.<\/p>\n

      \n
    1. Disable Lock layout<\/strong> option<\/li>\n
    2. Click on the Widget controller<\/strong> widget from top right corner and delete Direction and Draw widget if you do not need them.<\/li>\n
    3. Add the Accordion<\/strong> widget on the right side of the app. From the General settings<\/strong>, select Multiple <\/strong>and make sure Expand\/Collapse all button <\/strong>is on.<\/li>\n
    4. Add Add Data<\/strong> widget, accept all default values.<\/li>\n
    5. Add the Near Me <\/strong>widget to your app and connect it to the map.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

      <\/h2>\n

      Add and configure the Search widget<\/strong><\/h2>\n

      You want to provide the option for users to set an address or a location and find out the at risk species or environmentally sensitive areas close to that address or location.<\/p>\n

        \n
      1. Click on the Search<\/strong> widget from widget controller.<\/li>\n
      2. Click New search source.<\/strong><\/li>\n
      3. Click on Locator source<\/strong>, then click on Select utility<\/strong> and select a geocode locator. In the sample app, I used ArcGIS World Geocoding service.<\/li>\n
      4. Make sure that Enable filtering for layer source search<\/strong> is turned off if you configure a feature layer.<\/li>\n
      5. Expand Search result <\/strong>and check Auto select the first result.\u00a0<\/strong><\/li>\n
      6. On the Action<\/strong> tab, click Add a trigger<\/strong>.<\/li>\n
      7. Select Record selection changes<\/strong> as a trigger.<\/li>\n
      8. Select Near Me <\/strong>as a target from the Widgets list and Set location<\/strong> as an action to use the searched location as an input location in the Near Me widget.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

        Configure the Near Me widget<\/strong><\/h2>\n

        Now that you\u2019ve created your app, you\u2019ll configure the Near Me widget by configuring the map, search, and analysis settings.<\/p>\n

        Configure Analysis Settings<\/strong><\/h3>\n
          \n
        1. Click the Near Me <\/strong>widget.<\/li>\n
        2. In the Content<\/strong> panel, under Analysis Settings<\/strong>, select your map.<\/li>\n
        3. Click the map to configure its settings.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

           <\/p>\n

          Define a search method<\/strong><\/p>\n

            \n
          1. Make sure Specify a location<\/strong> is selected.<\/li>\n
          2. Set the default Search distance<\/strong> and Distance units. <\/strong>Because users want to analyze environmental impact within proposed development areas, I set the default distance to 0 miles.<\/li>\n
          3. From the Input<\/strong> section, accept the default values of all the parameters.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

             <\/p>\n

            Configure Analysis for layers<\/strong><\/p>\n

            Setting up analysis is the key step when configuring the Near Me widget, the widget will not work until at least one analysis is configured. To configure the analysis settings for layers, follow these steps:<\/p>\n

              \n
            1. Click Add Analysis<\/strong><\/li>\n
            2. Select the layer<\/li>\n
            3. From the Analysis Types<\/strong> , choose Proximity<\/strong>.<\/li>\n
            4. From the Display field<\/strong> dropdown, choose a field to use as feature title.<\/li>\n
            5. Optionally select Sort<\/strong> and Group features <\/strong>fields if you need to organize your data. <\/strong>I used group features option for some of my layers.<\/li>\n
            6. Save the app.<\/li>\n
            7. Using similar process, configure proximity analysis for all of your layers. In the sample app, I have 12 layers that are configured for proximity analysis.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

              Results settings<\/strong><\/p>\n

              After finish configuring all the analyses,\u00a0 from main configuration panel,\u00a0 expand Results option<\/p>\n

              1. Check Map symbols<\/strong> to show feature symbols in the Near Me widget panel.<\/li>\n
              2. Uncheck Approximate distance<\/strong> off, since we are interested in intersecting features, approximate distance will always be 0 and it will not add any value to our reports.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

                Add and configure Print widget<\/strong><\/h2>\n

                In this step you are going to add Print widget and configure the templates to use the reporting templates from the custom Enterprise print service you published by following this blog<\/a>.<\/p>\n

                  \n
                1. Add print widget to the widget controller.<\/li>\n
                2. From the Print widget Content<\/strong> Tab, in Print template section, click on Select utility<\/strong>.<\/li>\n
                3. In Select utility tab, click on Added <\/strong>tab and then Add utility. <\/strong>Copy and paste your print service url (Export web map url) in the URL <\/strong>input tab, click Add<\/strong> and Done.<\/strong><\/li>\n
                4. Now go to Added<\/strong> tab and you should able to see your custom print service listed here, select the service.<\/li>\n
                5. Once all the template loads, click on the first template A3 Landscape.<\/strong><\/li>\n
                6. Select the File format<\/strong> to be portable document format (PDF)<\/strong>.<\/li>\n
                7. In the Report section, make sure Use service report<\/strong> is selected.<\/li>\n
                8. From the drop down choose your report. This will load all the reports you have in the selected template.<\/li>\n
                9. Now click on the Select data<\/strong> button underneath the first report name.<\/li>\n
                10. Click on the Outputs<\/strong> tab, then expand Near me<\/strong> and select the output layer result for your report.<\/li>\n
                11. Similarly select data from Near Me output data sources for all of your reports.<\/li>\n
                12. Follow steps 5-11 to configure other layout templates of the Print widget.<\/li>\n
                13. Save<\/strong> the app.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

                  Environmental impact assessment<\/strong><\/h2>\n

                  Your app is ready for the Natural resource agency staff to conduct preliminary environmental impact assessment. Now to make sure the app is working as expected:<\/p>\n

                    \n
                  1. Launch the app.<\/li>\n
                  2. Click on the\u00a0 + Click to add data<\/strong> button from Add data<\/strong> widget, select URL<\/strong> tab and paste this service url<\/a> , then click on the Actions<\/strong> button beside the layer and click Set Location <\/strong>from the context menu. A warning sign will appear to caution you about the performance, click proceed if you have small number of the features in the layer otherwise it may take a while.<\/li>\n
                  3. Notice that Near Me calculates the intersecting environmental sensitive features within the survey areas,<\/li>\n
                  4. Expand each layer and explore the results.<\/li>\n
                  5. Once you are happy with the results you can either download the results as CSV files or you can click on the Export to PDF button. Choose a template and provide a title for your report and click Export (<\/strong>A<\/strong>t this moment, Near Me widget do not support export format setting at the application or layer level. At the layer level only export CSV is supported and at the batch export level\u00a0 all formats are always available.)<\/strong><\/em><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n
