Th<\/span>is option <\/span>is available for <\/span>both <\/span>hosted feature layers (including <\/span><\/span>Oriented Imagery Layers<\/span><\/span><\/a>) and hosted tables.\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n In specific cases, you still may not be able to add or delete fields. In the following scenarios, adding or deleting a field\u202fis <\/span>not<\/span> supported:\u202f<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n At the bottom of the Fields pane, <\/span>there will now be <\/span>an<\/span> option<\/span> to <\/span><\/span>Add field<\/span><\/span><\/strong>. Clicking this button open<\/span>s<\/span> the new add field experience. <\/span>You will then need to select what type of field you want to add to your layer. While these field types <\/span>ar<\/span>en\u2019t<\/span> n<\/span>ew to the ArcGIS platform, this is the first time <\/span>th<\/span>ey\u2019ve<\/span> b<\/span>een offered in the add field experience in ArcGIS Online.\u00a0<\/span><\/span> While both <\/span>the GUID and <\/span>GlobalID<\/span> field types are used to <\/span>identi<\/span>fy<\/span> features in your dataset<\/span>, there are some key differences between the two<\/span>.<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n GlobalIDs<\/span><\/span><\/a> are <\/span>system-maintained <\/span>fields<\/span> that uniquely <\/span>identify<\/span> a feature in your layer<\/span>. When <\/span>this field is <\/span>added to a layer with existing data, <\/span>GlobalIDs<\/span> for the existing features will be automatically populated. <\/span>Once added, this field cannot be edited or <\/span>deleted<\/span> from your layer. A hosted layer or table can only <\/span>contain<\/span> a single <\/span>GlobalID<\/span> field. As a result, if your layer already has a <\/span>GlobalID field<\/span>, this field type will be <\/span>unavailable for selection<\/span>.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n GUID fields<\/span> will <\/span>not <\/span>be <\/span>automatically populated for your existing data, or any new features that you may add. <\/span>To easily populate a GUID field we recommend using <\/span><\/span>Arcade’s<\/span> <\/span>Guid()<\/span><\/span><\/a> function to calculate the value in a form<\/a><\/span>.<\/span> Unlike a <\/span>GlobalID<\/span> fi<\/span>eld, you<\/span> are not restricted to only having a single GUID<\/span>. <\/span>GUID fields <\/span>are <\/span>also <\/span>no<\/span>t required to<\/span> be unique <\/span>within your layer. <\/span>Because they are often used as the foreign key in relationships, multiple features<\/span> within a layer<\/span> may have the same GUID.<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n"},{"acf_fc_layout":"content","content":" Setting the field value type is a new optional parameter available for all<\/span>\u00a0field types<\/span>, except for <\/span>GlobalIDs<\/span>.<\/span> You can think of <\/span>the <\/span>field value <\/span>type as <\/span>metadata about your field. It <\/span>provides <\/span>additional<\/span> context<\/span> as to what sort of data is contained in the field.<\/span> This is particularly <\/span>helpful if your dataset is being consumed by others who may not be as familiar with it. <\/span>If a field is used to style a layer, the field value type can be used to <\/span>determine<\/span> the most <\/span>appropriate style<\/span> for your layer based on the selected field(s). This is primarily to prevent deleting a field that could corrupt existing web maps that use the layer or table. For example, fields used to style or filter the layer, or those being actively used to label in the web map cannot be deleted. Other fields that are not eligible for deletion via the Fields pane include:<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n You should always be cautious when deleting fields from a layer or table, particularly if you are not the layer owner.
