For example, to create an office footprint that is aligned with a pre-existing feature you can first snap the grid to the desired polygon edge. This tool is particularly useful when aligning the grid to pre-existing features or establishing the grid spacing in a specific area of the map.<\/p>\n<p>You can set the grid origin using the <strong>Move<\/strong><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/www.esri.com\/arcgis-blog\/app\/uploads\/2024\/10\/Move2.jpg\" width=\"41\" height=\"30\" \/> tool or define the angle with the <strong>Rotate<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/www.esri.com\/arcgis-blog\/app\/uploads\/2024\/10\/Rotate2.jpg\" width=\"36\" height=\"31\" \/><\/strong> tool. If you have specific values that you would like to use, you can enter the numbers in the <strong>Angle<\/strong> and <strong>Spacing*<\/strong> inputs.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><em>*The spacing input is only available when editing a dataset in a projected coordinate system other than Web Mercator. This is to prevent distortion while editing. See <a href=\"#notes\">notes for consideration <\/a><\/em>for more information.<\/p>\n<h3>Dynamic scaling<\/h3>\n<p>Dynamic scaling refers to the size of the grid and its spacing being automatically adjusted when you zoom in or out of the map. This setting is enabled to prevent the grid from becoming too condensed at different scales. To see the change in the grid spacing when dynamically scaled, hover over the <strong>Spacing <\/strong>tooltip (pictured below).<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/www.esri.com\/arcgis-blog\/app\/uploads\/2024\/10\/dynamicScalinginput.jpg\" \/><\/p>\n<p>However, there are times when it may be useful to keep consistent grid spacing regardless of the map scale. Simply toggle off <strong>Dynamically scale grid based on zoom<\/strong>* to ensure the spacing input is honored.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>*<em>When dynamic scaling is disabled, t<\/em><em>he grid will automatically turn off to prevent grid lines from becoming too condensed.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3>Additional settings<\/h3>\n<p>Explore the following settings to fine tune the grid while editing.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h4>Theme<\/h4>\n<p>The <strong>Theme <\/strong>category of grid settings allows you to set the color of the grid lines. This can be particularly helpful for different basemaps styles or layers with imagery to increase readability and accessibility. There are three options to choose from: a Dark theme, Light theme, and a custom color option to choose the exact color of preference.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/www.esri.com\/arcgis-blog\/app\/uploads\/2024\/10\/Theme-213x126.jpg\" alt=\"Image displays the theme\/color selection for the grid\" data-name=\"image\" \/><\/p>\n<h4>Rotate grid with map<\/h4>\n<p>Just as the name states, control whether the grid rotates with the map or remains stationary by toggling the <strong>Rotate grid with map <\/strong>setting on or off.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h4>Cells between major lines<\/h4>\n<p>The <strong>Cells between major lines<\/strong> setting differentiates the thicker or &#8220;bolder&#8221; grid lines from the default line style. Entering a specific number (up to 15) can both reduce visual clutter of the grid and allow you to quickly count grid spaces while digitizing features.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h1 id=\"notes\"><\/h1>\n<h2><\/h2>\n<h2>Notes for consideration<\/h2>\n"},{"acf_fc_layout":"sidebar","content":"<p>1. To ensure that the grid can snap to desired layers and features, configure the layer snapping under <strong>Snapping options<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>2. The grid is composed of straight, flat lines that lay on top of a projected map. Due to the nature of projections, there may be slight distortions in the grid spacing as you edit further away from the equator. Manually entering spacing for the grid will be unavailable when editing data in a Geographic Coordinate System or Web Mercator to prevent inaccuracy while editing. To get the highest accuracy and precision while editing your GIS data, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.esri.com\/training\/catalog\/6419f1909cb4c6762456e3ec\/creating-a-custom-basemap-in-arcgis-pro\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">create a custom basemap\u00a0<\/a>using a projected coordinate system (other than Web Mercator) suitable for your area of interest.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>3. The grid is currently only supported for 2D
