For example, if your layer represents a construction site you might be restricted to a specific coordinate system. Anyone on the project can work with your geospatial data because the same coordinate system is used.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Sometimes you might have to comply with government requirements to provide geospatial data in the country or state coordinate system.\u00a0<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"TextRun SCXW110267138 BCX0\" lang=\"EN-US\" xml:lang=\"EN-US\" data-contrast=\"auto\"><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW110267138 BCX0\">Creating new data or projecting data<\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW110267138 BCX0\">\u00a0<\/span><\/span><span class=\"EOP SCXW110267138 BCX0\" data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">You can create <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/pro.arcgis.com\/en\/pro-app\/latest\/help\/data\/feature-classes\/create-a-feature-class.htm\"><span data-contrast=\"none\">new feature classes<\/span><\/a><span data-contrast=\"auto\"> or <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/pro.arcgis.com\/en\/pro-app\/latest\/tool-reference\/data-management\/project.htm\"><span data-contrast=\"none\">project<\/span><\/a><span data-contrast=\"auto\"> existing data including <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/pro.arcgis.com\/en\/pro-app\/latest\/tool-reference\/data-management\/project-raster.htm\"><span data-contrast=\"none\">raster<\/span><\/a><span data-contrast=\"auto\">. However, if you do not define a vertical coordinate system ArcGIS assumes that the vertical heights are gravity related and have the same unit as the horizontal XY coordinate system. If your data are in a geodetic coordinate system, the vertical unit is assumed to be in meters.<\/span><br \/>\n<span data-contrast=\"auto\">When you work in 3D it is best practice to define the vertical coordinate system. You should choose the same horizontal XY coordinate system for your 2D layer and 3D layer.
