It was a great week full of map-talk and an amazing opportunity to learn about the work of our users across the Atlantic.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Once the conference ended, I extended my trip by a couple of days and headed out to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.spain.info\/en\/nature\/picos-europa-national-park\/\">Picos de Europa National Park<\/a>.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">In researching for my trip, I learned about a cute town called Bulnes. No roads reach Bulnes but you can access it via a <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Bulnes_Funicular\">funicular<\/a> or on foot via <a href=\"https:\/\/www.turismoasturias.es\/descubre\/naturaleza\/rutas\/senderismo\/subida-a-bulnes\">Canal del Texu<\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">The funicular opens at 10:00 a.m. and so, to avoid wasting any sunlight, I decided to hike up to Bulnes. <\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"TextRun SCXW71212245 BCX0\" lang=\"EN-US\" xml:lang=\"EN-US\" data-contrast=\"auto\"><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW71212245 BCX0\">The views <\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW71212245 BCX0\">along the way <\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW71212245 BCX0\">were spectacular<\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW71212245 BCX0\">. <\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW71212245 BCX0\">Hiking up was <\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW71212245 BCX0\">definitely the<\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW71212245 BCX0\"> right <\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW71212245 BCX0\">decision <\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW71212245 BCX0\">for me.<\/span> <span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW71212245 BCX0\">Th<\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW71212245 BCX0\">e decision to keep hiking<\/span> <\/span><span class=\"TextRun SCXW71212245 BCX0\" lang=\"EN-US\" xml:lang=\"EN-US\" data-contrast=\"auto\"><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW71212245 BCX0\">after <\/span><\/span><span class=\"TextRun SCXW71212245 BCX0\" lang=\"EN-US\" xml:lang=\"EN-US\" data-contrast=\"auto\"><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW71212245 BCX0\">reaching Bulnes<\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW71212245 BCX0\">, however, was not.<\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW71212245 BCX0\">\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n"},{"acf_fc_layout":"content","content":"<p><span class=\"TextRun SCXW31381873 BCX0\" lang=\"EN-US\" xml:lang=\"EN-US\" data-contrast=\"auto\"><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW31381873 BCX0\">I <\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW31381873 BCX0\">won\u2019t<\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW31381873 BCX0\"> drag on about the hike itself, but I&#8217;ll share a few fun facts<\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW31381873 BCX0\"> that hopefully speak for themselves<\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW31381873 BCX0\">:<\/span><\/span><span class=\"EOP SCXW31381873 BCX0\" data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong><span class=\"TextRun SCXW254473813 BCX0\" lang=\"EN-US\" xml:lang=\"EN-US\" data-contrast=\"auto\"><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW254473813 BCX0\">Fun fact #1<\/span><\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"TextRun SCXW254473813 BCX0\" lang=\"EN-US\" xml:lang=\"EN-US\" data-contrast=\"auto\"><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW254473813 BCX0\">There are<\/span> <span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW254473813 BCX0\">adorable<\/span> <span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW254473813 BCX0\">fluffy cows all over the area surrounding Bulnes<\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW254473813 BCX0\">; salt contains minerals \u2013 like calcium \u2013 which cows need to survive.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>Fun fact #3<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">If you\u2019re a solo hiker with a tree branch for a hiking stick, fluffy cows might mistake you for a shepherd and chase you around the mountains thinking you have salt to give them.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"TextRun SCXW242802716 BCX0\" lang=\"EN-US\" xml:lang=\"EN-US\" data-contrast=\"auto\"><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW242802716 BCX0\">To commemorate my adventure in Picos de Europa National Park \u2013 and surviving the cows \u2013 I decided to make a map.\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n"},{"acf_fc_layout":"content","content":"<h3>Creating Contours<\/h3>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">I wanted to make a map that highlighted the pronounced elevation gain of Picos de Europa National Park \u2013 and what better way to do that than with contours. <\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;335559685&quot;:0}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">I often hear from users who get tripped up by the raster size limitation of most Geoprocessing tools. <em>&#8220;If the Clip Raster tool doesn\u2019t allow me to process a dataset larger than 5000 x 5000 pixels, then what am I supposed to do?&#8221;<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n"},{"acf_fc_layout":"content","content":"<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Well&#8230; you can use the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/pro.arcgis.com\/en\/pro-app\/latest\/help\/data\/imagery\/export-or-convert-raster-datasets.htm\"><span data-contrast=\"none\">Export Raster pane<\/span><\/a><span data-contrast=\"auto\">. The Export Raster pane allows you to \u201cclip\u201d your raster layer to a specified extent, choose the cell and raster size, and change the spatial reference with just a few clicks. \u00a0<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">I added the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.arcgis.com\/home\/item.html?id=58a541efc59545e6b7137f961d7de883\"><span data-contrast=\"none\">Terrain<\/span><\/a><span data-contrast=\"auto\"> imagery layer from ArcGIS Living Atlas of the World to my map. On the Contents Pane, I right clicked the layer, hovered over Data, and chose Export Raster. In the pane, I set the National Park boundary as the Clipping Geometry and checked the \u201cMaintain Clipping Extent\u201d checkbox. Interpolate Shape is a tool that converts a 2D feature class into a 3D feature class by interpolating z-values from a surface.<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\"> It\u2019s very handy for when you need to quickly add elevation data to features instead of manually inputting the z-values.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\"> <span class=\"TextRun SCXW139570817 BCX0\" lang=\"EN-US\" xml:lang=\"EN-US\" data-contrast=\"auto\"><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW139570817 BCX0\" data-ccp-parastyle=\"footnote text\">Check out <a href=\"https:\/\/pro.arcgis.com\/en\/pro-app\/latest\/tool-reference\/3d-analyst\/interpolate-shape.htm\">this page<\/a> of the ArcGIS Pro documentation to learn more about how Interpolate Shape works.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Then, I took the output and created a profile graph of my path.
