OSM is built by a community of mappers that contribute and maintain data about roads, trails, buildings, restaurants, and much more. Many ArcGIS users are active contributors to OSM, using popular <a href=\"https:\/\/wiki.openstreetmap.org\/wiki\/Editors\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">OSM editors<\/a> or the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.esri.com\/arcgis-blog\/products\/arcgis-desktop\/uncategorized\/arcgis-editor-for-openstreetmap-10-6-now-available\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">ArcGIS Editor for OSM<\/a> to share their data. Many ArcGIS users are also active consumers of OSM, using the map in their web maps and apps or the data for their mapping and analysis.<\/p>\n<p>For many years, Esri has included OpenStreetMap as one of the default basemaps in ArcGIS, which has been quite popular. The basemap references a raster tile service hosted by the <a href=\"https:\/\/wiki.osmfoundation.org\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">OSM Foundation<\/a> that is updated frequently as contributors make edits to OSM. Over the past couple years, Esri has introduced basemap options using <a href=\"http:\/\/doc.arcgis.com\/en\/arcgis-online\/reference\/tile-layers.htm#ESRI_SECTION1_8F68399EB47B48FF9EF46719FCC96978\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">vector tile layers<\/a>, which offer several advantages such as the ability to customize the map. Until now, there has not been an option to access all of OpenStreetMap as a <strong>vector basemap<\/strong> in ArcGIS Online.<\/p>\n"},{"acf_fc_layout":"content","content":"<h3>What&#8217;s New<\/h3>\n<p>This summer, Esri is introducing a new <a href=\"http:\/\/esri.maps.arcgis.com\/apps\/View\/index.html?appid=d6b18a2e774c4959ba855f6ac90952a2\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">OpenStreetMap Vector Basemap<\/a>. The map will be built using OSM data exclusively. It will be hosted by Esri and updated frequently over time. Best of all, it will be freely available to all ArcGIS Users. In fact, it will be <strong>freely available to any user or developer<\/strong> that would like to use an OSM vector basemap in their map or app!<\/p>\n<p>This week, we are sharing an initial version of the OpenStreetMap Vector Basemap, which you can explore through this <a href=\"http:\/\/esri.maps.arcgis.com\/apps\/View\/index.html?appid=d6b18a2e774c4959ba855f6ac90952a2\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">web mapping app<\/a>. We&#8217;ll also continue to refine our use of the <a href=\"https:\/\/github.com\/gravitystorm\/openstreetmap-carto\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">OSM cartography<\/a> to improve the map display and performance. Lastly, we&#8217;ll make some updates to our apps to take full advantage of the new OSM vector basemap, such as enabling proper display of attribution and style customization.
