For example, we need some bridges still in good condition and some already in poor condition to model how long it typically takes for deterioration to happen.<\/p>\n<p>To generate predictions, the <a href=\"https:\/\/pro.arcgis.com\/en\/pro-app\/latest\/tool-reference\/spatial-statistics\/how-estimate-time-to-event-works.htm\">Estimate Time to Event tool<\/a> requires three main inputs:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Age of each observation (how long the bridge has been in service).<\/li>\n<li>Event indicator (whether or not the bridge has already degraded).<\/li>\n<li>Explanatory variables (factors that might influence longevity).<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>While the Bridge Inventory dataset provides lots of helpful data (some variables are shown in the <a href=\"https:\/\/pro.arcgis.com\/en\/pro-app\/3.3\/help\/analysis\/geoprocessing\/data-engineering\/what-is-data-engineering.htm\">Data Engineering<\/a> pane below), it doesn\u2019t give us these fields directly. For example, if the bridge is marked as Poor, we\u2019ll classify that as a &#8220;Yes&#8221; for the event having occurred.<\/p>\n<p>This transformation can be done with the <a href=\"https:\/\/pro.arcgis.com\/en\/pro-app\/latest\/tool-reference\/data-management\/calculate-field.htm\">Calculate Field<\/a> tool. One useful example is Climate Region, available through <a href=\"https:\/\/www.arcgis.com\/home\/item.html?id=926a206393ec40a590d8caf29ae9a93e\">World Terrestrial Ecosystems<\/a> in the Living Atlas. Bridges in cooler areas are likely to face more degradation. The map below shows the bridge data enriched with information on the
