Features on a map represent places and objects visualized through points, lines, and polygons. They give a sense of a map\u2019s story and where the location is in the world. They often contain attributes, or the details of the object being represented. Often, creating features can feel overwhelming or complex to those without training or experience in GIS software. In ArcGIS AllSource, Simplified Feature Creation streamlines and refines the feature creation process for the AllSource intelligence analyst.<\/p>\n

Feature Creation in ArcGIS AllSource is designed as an intuitive editing experience with new capabilities enabled once Edit Mode<\/strong>\u00a0is activated. In\u00a0Edit Mode<\/strong>, editing tools are ready to use from the\u00a0Mapview<\/strong> toolbar. In addition, the\u00a0Edit\u00a0Feature <\/strong>pane\u00a0allows AllSource analysts to create, modify, and edit feature attributes.<\/p>\n"},{"acf_fc_layout":"content","content":"

Enable Edit Mode<\/h2>\n

To create a feature, begin by opening a project or starting a new one. 3. Draw your selected geometry on the map.<\/p>\n

Regardless of shape, an OBJECTID<\/strong> and Label<\/strong> field are created with each feature to distinguish one from another. 4. On the Construction<\/strong> toolbar, click Finish<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

5. On the Mapview<\/strong> toolbar, click Save Edits<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Before modifying or editing this feature, explore another method to create a feature using the Data <\/strong>tab. This also starts Edit Mode<\/strong> and opens the Mapview <\/strong>toolbar.<\/p>\n

1. Click the Data.<\/strong><\/p>\n

2. On the Data <\/strong>tab, in the Add <\/strong>group, click the New Feature Layer<\/strong> drop-down menu.<\/p>\n

3. 5. On the Construction<\/strong> toolbar, click Finish<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

6. On the Mapview <\/strong>toolbar, click Save Edits<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Now that you know how to create a feature using both the Map<\/strong> tab and the Data<\/strong> tab, you\u2019ll modify features.<\/p>\n

Modify Features<\/h2>\n

Modifying an existing feature is also done using Edit Mode<\/strong> and the Edit <\/strong>tab. To modify a feature, on the Map <\/strong>tab, click the Edit <\/strong>button in the features group.<\/p>\n

The Edit<\/strong> tab opens with Edit Mode<\/strong> enabled.<\/p>\n

Edit feature fields<\/strong><\/h2>\n

Once a feature has been created, you can edit its fields using the Edit Features<\/strong> pane.<\/p>\n

2 . On the Edit<\/strong> tab, in the Features<\/strong> group, click Edit<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

This opens the Edit Feature<\/strong> pane and activates the selection tool as the current tool.<\/p>\n
