Data engineering is a crucial step\u00a0<\/span>in\u00a0<\/span>preparing, exploring, and visualizing data. Data can come in many\u00a0<\/span>forms<\/span>\u00a0and in ArcGIS Pro 3.6, Data Engineering has been extended to support raster layers with a\u00a0<\/span>raster attribute table<\/span>. All the useful tools and functionality offered by the\u00a0<\/span><\/span>Data Engineering view<\/span><\/span><\/a>\u00a0<\/span>are\u00a0<\/span>now available for raster layers with\u00a0<\/span>raster attribute table<\/span>s. This exciting enhancement means you can\u00a0<\/span>now\u00a0<\/span>use Data Engineering to\u00a0<\/span>work with\u00a0<\/span>raster layers with\u00a0<\/span>raster attribute table<\/span>s.<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Opening <\/span>a<\/span>\u00a0Data Engineering<\/span>\u00a0view<\/span>\u00a0from a raster layer with a\u00a0<\/span>raster attribute table<\/span><\/strong><\/h3>\n

To open\u00a0a Data Engineering view from a supported raster\u00a0layer\u00a0right-click the layer and click Data Engineering.\u00a0If a\u00a0raster attribute table\u00a0exists,\u00a0the Data Engineering view will open, otherwise you\u00a0will\u00a0be prompted to use the\u00a0<\/span>Build Raster attribute table<\/span><\/a>\u00a0tool to first build a\u00a0raster attribute table.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Exploring\u00a0rasters\u00a0with a\u00a0raster attribute table<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/h3>\n

Once open, the Data Engineering view will include the Data Engineering Ribbon, a statistics panel, and a fields panel. The fields panel contains every field in the raster attribute table. <\/span>A raster attribute table summarizes the contents of a raster. Every raster attribute table has a <\/span>Value\u00a0and\u00a0<\/span>Count\u00a0field. The\u00a0<\/span>Value\u00a0field lists all the unique values in the raster\u00a0layer\u00a0while\u00a0the\u00a0<\/span>Count\u00a0field displays the number of cells with that value. All the features and functionality of the Data Engineering view, which were previously only available for feature layers and tables, are now possible for rasters with a raster attribute table. View the functionality available for each field by right-clicking the field in the fields panel and selecting an option in the menu. You can also use the Data Engineering Ribbon to find tools and features available for rasters with raster attribute tables.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Understanding statistics for raster layers with a\u00a0raster attribute table\u00a0<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/h3>\n

You can calculate statistics for a field by\u00a0selecting a\u00a0field\u00a0in the fields panel,\u00a0adding it to the\u00a0statistics panel,\u00a0and clicking the Calculate button. S<\/span>tatistics are calculated considering all raster cells.\u00a0<\/span>The raster attribute table summarizes the contents of the entire raster so to calculate statistics from the raster attribute table, statistics are weighted by the Count field.\u00a0 <\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
