Once upon a time,\u00a0Hannah shared a blog about\u00a0working with project favorites:\u00a0<\/span>ArcGIS Pro tips: This might just be your favorite tip ever<\/span><\/a>. While\u00a0Favorites have long been a simple but powerful way to quickly access the folders, databases, and servers you use most,\u00a0with ArcGIS Pro 3.7\u00a0(May 2026), we\u2019ve taken this concept much further,\u00a0especially for GIS administrators who are responsible for setting up consistent, reliable access to organizational data.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

A Quick Refresher on Favorites<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/h2>\n

Favorites in ArcGIS Pro allow users to bookmark frequently used items like folders, databases, servers, toolboxes, custom styles and more, so they\u2019re always easy to find. These are saved in a favorites file, which acts as a reference to those items. <\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Historically,\u00a0each user has managed their\u00a0own\u00a0favorites<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/b>in ArcGIS Pro. This provides flexibility, but\u00a0with\u00a0each user curating\u00a0their own\u00a0list,\u00a0access to key organizational data can vary from user to user.\u00a0Administrators\u00a0have had to\u00a0rely on manual setup or homegrown\u00a0documentation to\u00a0provide\u00a0a consistent set of\u00a0project items to users across their organizations.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

ArcGIS Pro 3.7\u00a0introduces two key improvements that make project favorites\u00a0more powerful, both for individual end users as well as for administrators: 1. setting a custom favorites file, and 2. preparing administrator-managed system favorites.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

What\u2019s New with Favorites in ArcGIS Pro 3.7<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/h2>\n

Export Favorites<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/h3>\n

Users can now export their favorites collection\u00a0as a JSON file. This\u00a0simple addition opens up some new\u00a0opportunities\u00a0like allowing you to share curated sets of connections with colleagues. It also makes\u00a0it easy\u00a0to have multiple\u00a0favorites\u00a0files and switch the set of\u00a0<\/span>My Favorites<\/span><\/b>\u00a0when you start\u00a0working on a different project.\u202f<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

More importantly, exporting favorites\u00a0lays\u00a0the foundation for the\u00a0two key improvements I mentioned above\u2014setting a custom favorites file and preparing administrator-managed system favorites.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Custom Favorites File<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/h3>\n

This increases flexibility for both users and administrators. A practical application for using this option is for organizations where roaming\u00a0profiles are not supported on the network. You can store your Favorites.json file in a location accessible across the network, and access the same custom My Favorites<\/strong> list from any computer. When you update the favorites file, you can immediately see the changes on another machine by pressing F5 to refresh the My Favorites<\/strong> list.<\/p>\n

System Favorites<\/h3>\n

The biggest enhancement to favorites in ArcGIS Pro 3.7 is the introduction of system favorites\u2014a centrally managed set of favorites defined by a GIS administrator. Why System Favorites Matter for GIS Administrators<\/h4>\n

The help provides step-by-step instructions for creating and distributing a collection of favorites so I won\u2019t repeat those here. But I do want to highlight the importance of leveraging system favorites.<\/p>\n

  1. Centralized access to authoritative data: <\/strong>Automatically deliver your organization\u2019s resources to your end users. Every user sees the same authoritative data sources with no setup required. Investing the setup time upfront saves countless hours of searching and frustration for your users.<\/li>\n
  2. Automatic deployment at first launch: <\/strong>System favorites can be deployed via silent install meaning they are available immediately when users first open ArcGIS Pro. This reduces onboarding friction and IT overhead.<\/li>\n
  3. Maintainable over time: <\/strong>Administrators can update the system favorites file at any time without logging into users\u2019 machines and there is no need to distribute connection files manually. Any changes are reflected when users refresh. Centralized GIS resource governance minimizes operational effort.<\/li>\n
  4. Standardization without losing flexibility: <\/strong>System favorites don\u2019t replace personal favorites\u2014they complement them. Users still maintain their own My Favorites<\/strong>. It\u2019s the best of both worlds.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    Refresh Your Favorites Today!<\/h2>\n

    ArcGIS Pro 3.7 represents an important evolution in how favorites work. Users benefit from improved portability and flexibility. Administrators now have an easier way to standardize and scale environments.<\/p>\n

    System favorites address a long-standing challenge\u2014how do you ensure everyone in your organization has easy, consistent access to the right data without manual setup?<\/p>\n

    Now, the answer is simple: configure it once, deploy it centrally, and keep it up to date.<\/p>\n

    If you haven\u2019t revisited favorites recently, now is a great time. What started as a personal productivity feature has become a key mechanism for enterprise configuration and data access in ArcGIS Pro. Consider exporting a curated \u201cgold standard\u201d set of connections from your own environment and using it as the starting point for your organization\u2019s system favorites.<\/p>\n
