This parameter allows you to receive a more precise location when a rooftop address doesn&#8217;t exist.\n<ul>\n<li>interpolatePointAddress = false is the default value<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>The location is more precise because it uses linear interpolation between nearby PointAddress records.\n<ul>\n<li>Along with the new parameter, there is a new value for the <code>Addr<wbr \/>_type<\/code> field &#8211; <code>b<\/code>\n<ul>\n<li>The <code>b<\/code>\u00a0value indicates that PointAddress interpolation was used to match the <code>House<wbr \/>Number<\/code> component.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p id=\"see-it-in-action\" style=\"font-weight: 400\"><strong>See it in action<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>To make the difference tangible, we built a small <a href=\"https:\/\/hhkaos.github.io\/arcgis-geocoding-sample-apps\/examples\/street-address-interpolation\/\">interactive sample app<\/a> around a real case: <strong>Cruquiusweg 134, Amsterdam<\/strong>, geocoded twice with <a href=\"https:\/\/developers.arcgis.com\/rest\/geocode\/find-address-candidates\/\"><code>findAddressCandidates<\/code><\/a>, changing only <code><a href=\"https:\/\/developers.arcgis.com\/rest\/geocode\/find-address-candidates\/#interpolatepointaddress\">interpolatePointAddress<\/a><\/code>.<\/p>\n<p>With <code>interpolatePointAddress=false<\/code>, house number 134 has no rooftop record, so nothing matches it: the geocoder falls back to the street itself (<code>Addr_type: StreetName<\/code>), returning a point near the middle of the street, and the <code>MatchNarrative<\/code> marks <code>134<\/code> as <code>Unidentified<\/code><\/p>\n<p>With <code>interpolatePointAddress=true<\/code>, the service looks for available point addresses on that side of the street it <em>does<\/em> have real <code>PointAddress<\/code> records for \u2014 <strong>130<\/strong> and <strong>142<\/strong> \u2014 and places 134 by interpolating linearly between them. The result is <code>Addr_type: PointAddressInt<\/code> with score 100, <code>AddRange 130-142<\/code>, and a <code>MatchNarrative<\/code> where <code>HouseNumber<\/code> now carries the new <code>b<\/code> code \u2014 some 165 m from where the same address was returned without the parameter.<\/p>\n<p>The app draws that whole range on the map \u2014 130 and 142 as the known rooftop anchors, 132 to 140 as the evenly spaced interpolated points between them \u2014 so you can see exactly what the parameter is doing. Switch between the <code>false<\/code> result, the <code>true<\/code> result or both, and click any candidate to inspect its attributes and full <code>MatchNarrative<\/code>.
