{"id":402112,"date":"2019-01-09T09:31:28","date_gmt":"2019-01-09T17:31:28","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.esri.com\/arcgis-blog\/?post_type=blog&#038;p=402112"},"modified":"2019-01-25T10:07:58","modified_gmt":"2019-01-25T18:07:58","slug":"arcgis-pro-extensibility-looking-back-and-ahead-into-2019","status":"publish","type":"blog","link":"https:\/\/www.esri.com\/arcgis-blog\/products\/arcgis-pro\/3d-gis\/arcgis-pro-extensibility-looking-back-and-ahead-into-2019","title":{"rendered":"ArcGIS Pro Extensibility \u2013 Looking Back, and Ahead into 2019"},"author":6271,"featured_media":0,"parent":0,"menu_order":0,"comment_status":"closed","ping_status":"closed","template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"_acf_changed":false,"_searchwp_excluded":""},"categories":[23771,22941],"tags":[42181,42651],"industry":[],"product":[36561,36851],"class_list":["post-402112","blog","type-blog","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-3d-gis","category-mapping","tag-arcgis-pro","tag-arcgis-pro-sdk","product-arcgis-pro","product-arcgis-pro-net"],"acf":{"short_description":"This post will take a brief look back at some of the exciting ArcGIS Pro extensibility work in 2018, and some plans and opportunities in 2019.","flexible_content":[{"acf_fc_layout":"content","content":"<p><strong>Happy New Year!<\/strong>\u00a0 Looking back at 2018, it was another year of strong advances for ArcGIS Pro and ArcGIS Pro extensibility. \u00a0We saw great momentum with more organizations than ever making the move to ArcGIS Pro, as well as more Desktop developers taking advantage of Pro&#8217;s customization opportunities through add-ins built with the <a href=\"http:\/\/pro.arcgis.com\/en\/pro-app\/sdk\/\">ArcGIS Pro SDK for .NET<\/a>.\u00a0 These new Pro add-ins continue to help make migrations possible for many organizations, and allow users to leverage more of the powerful functionality found in each release of Pro.<\/p>\n<p>This trend was strongly evident in 2018, with many Esri customer and partner organizations releasing new add-ins that extend Pro\u2019s capabilities to meet their users\u2019 specific organizational needs and workflows.\u00a0 Let&#8217;s take a brief look at some of the highlights last year:<\/p>\n<h3>Pro SDK Advances<\/h3>\n<p>Throughout the year, ArcGIS Pro development teams released new Pro SDK functionality, and again grew the SDK significantly. \u00a0A few of the highlights from 2018\u2019s Pro SDK 2.1 and 2.2 releases included the areas of:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"padding-bottom: 16px\"><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/github.com\/Esri\/arcgis-pro-sdk\/wiki\/ProGuide-Annotation-Construction-Tools\">Editing<\/a> <\/strong>\u2013 New capabilities for creating and editing annotation features<\/li>\n<li style=\"padding-bottom: 16px\"><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/github.com\/Esri\/arcgis-pro-sdk\/wiki\/ProConcepts-Layouts\">Layouts<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0\u2013 A new API to create new layouts and layout elements, and manage layout views and selections<\/li>\n<li style=\"padding-bottom: 16px\"><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/github.com\/Esri\/arcgis-pro-sdk\/wiki\/ProConcepts-Utility-Network\">Utility Network<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0\u2013 A new API to create custom utility network tools, traces and workflows<\/li>\n<li style=\"padding-bottom: 16px\"><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/github.com\/esri\/arcgis-pro-sdk\/wiki\/ProConcepts-Geodatabase\">Geodatabase<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0\u2013 New capabilities for table sorting and calculating statistics on attributes<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>With Pro 2.1 and the release of the Utility Network, we also saw the introduction of the Utility Network API. \u00a0Many developers were keen to take advantage of these new opportunities and began their work in earnest last year, releasing new add-ins.<\/p>\n<p><em>A sample utility network workflow, as defined through a Pro add-in:<\/em><\/p>\n"},{"acf_fc_layout":"image","image":{"ID":402142,"id":402142,"title":"ArcGIS Pro SDK - Utility Network API","filename":"ArcGIS-Pro-SDK-Utility-Network-API.jpg","filesize":362272,"url":"https:\/\/www.esri.com\/arcgis-blog\/app\/uploads\/2019\/01\/ArcGIS-Pro-SDK-Utility-Network-API.jpg","link":"https:\/\/www.esri.com\/arcgis-blog\/products\/arcgis-pro\/3d-gis\/arcgis-pro-extensibility-looking-back-and-ahead-into-2019\/arcgis-pro-sdk-utility-network-api","alt":"","author":"6271","description":"","caption":"","name":"arcgis-pro-sdk-utility-network-api","status":"inherit","uploaded_to":402112,"date":"2019-01-08 01:23:06","modified":"2019-01-08 01:23:06","menu_order":0,"mime_type":"image\/jpeg","type":"image","subtype":"jpeg","icon":"https:\/\/www.esri.com\/arcgis-blog\/wp-includes\/images\/media\/default.png","width":1873,"height":999,"sizes":{"thumbnail":"https:\/\/www.esri.com\/arcgis-blog\/app\/uploads\/2019\/01\/ArcGIS-Pro-SDK-Utility-Network-API-150x150.jpg","thumbnail-width":150,"thumbnail-height":150,"medium":"https:\/\/www.esri.com\/arcgis-blog\/app\/uploads\/2019\/01\/ArcGIS-Pro-SDK-Utility-Network-API-300x160.jpg","medium-width":300,"medium-height":160,"medium_large":"https:\/\/www.esri.com\/arcgis-blog\/app\/uploads\/2019\/01\/ArcGIS-Pro-SDK-Utility-Network-API-768x410.jpg","medium_large-width":768,"medium_large-height":410,"large":"https:\/\/www.esri.com\/arcgis-blog\/app\/uploads\/2019\/01\/ArcGIS-Pro-SDK-Utility-Network-API-1024x546.jpg","large-width":1024,"large-height":546,"1536x1536":"https:\/\/www.esri.com\/arcgis-blog\/app\/uploads\/2019\/01\/ArcGIS-Pro-SDK-Utility-Network-API.jpg","1536x1536-width":1536,"1536x1536-height":819,"2048x2048":"https:\/\/www.esri.com\/arcgis-blog\/app\/uploads\/2019\/01\/ArcGIS-Pro-SDK-Utility-Network-API.jpg","2048x2048-width":1873,"2048x2048-height":999,"card_image":"https:\/\/www.esri.com\/arcgis-blog\/app\/uploads\/2019\/01\/ArcGIS-Pro-SDK-Utility-Network-API-826x441.jpg","card_image-width":826,"card_image-height":441,"wide_image":"https:\/\/www.esri.com\/arcgis-blog\/app\/uploads\/2019\/01\/ArcGIS-Pro-SDK-Utility-Network-API.jpg","wide_image-width":1873,"wide_image-height":999}},"image_position":"center","orientation":"horizontal","hyperlink":""},{"acf_fc_layout":"content","content":"<p>The Layouts API, also introduced last year, provides a new way for organizations to dynamically build layouts and manage layout elements.\u00a0 This is something that many organizations \u2013 such as those who developed tools that automated creation of complex layouts, such as alignment sheets and single-line diagram layouts \u2013 could take advantage of.<\/p>\n<p>In other areas, we saw additions to most all the existing Pro APIs, such as Content, Editing, Geodatabase and Map Exploration.\u00a0 These additions have helped many developers and organizations find the functionality that they needed to make great strides extending Pro.<\/p>\n<p>Developers took advantage of the many online resources, such as leveraging the Pro SDK <a href=\"https:\/\/github.com\/esri\/arcgis-pro-sdk-community-samples\">community samples<\/a> with ready-to-run solutions, as well as reviewing the many <a href=\"https:\/\/github.com\/esri\/arcgis-pro-sdk\/wiki\">ProGuides and other documentation<\/a>, as well as the <a href=\"https:\/\/developers.arcgis.com\/labs\/browse\/?topic=any&amp;product=Pro-SDK\">Pro SDK DevLabs<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Also, many developers were able to attend Dev Summit and UC and take advantage of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.esri.com\/arcgis-blog\/products\/arcgis-pro-net\/announcements\/arcgis-pro-sdk-sessions-available-from-dev-summit-2018\/\">many Pro SDK sessions<\/a> and get updates directly from the SDK team and many other ArcGIS Pro teams.\u00a0 We also saw extensive, growing participation in the <a href=\"https:\/\/community.esri.com\/groups\/arcgis-pro-sdk\">GeoNet Pro SDK Group<\/a>, as more developers are finding their way to the group to collaborate, find resources and ask technical questions.<\/p>\n<h3>Partner Add-Ins<\/h3>\n<p>2018 also saw new ArcGIS Pro add-ins deployed in production workflows at several organizations, as well as many new commercial add-ins from Esri Business Partners making their way onto the market.<\/p>\n<p>One example was <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.exprodat.com\/featured\/exploration\/exploration-analyst\/\"><em>Exploration Analyst <\/em><\/a>from Exprodat<\/strong>.\u00a0 The team at Exprodat completed the new ArcGIS Pro version of their tools for petroleum play chance analysis and resource assessment.\u00a0 They also used the effort as an opportunity to introduce new functionality such as graphing experience improvements, geoprocessing integration, and the use of tasks.<\/p>\n<p><em>The Analyse Pool Sizes tool included with Exploration Analyst from Exprodat:<\/em><\/p>\n"},{"acf_fc_layout":"image","image":{"ID":402162,"id":402162,"title":"Exprodat Eploration Analyst -
