Is my house near a park? The Zone Lookup app requires that your user\u00a0<\/span><\/span>inputs\u00a0<\/span><\/span>a location<\/span><\/span>. They can search<\/span><\/span>\u00a0for an address or\u00a0<\/span><\/span>defin<\/span><\/span>e\u00a0<\/span><\/span>the location by clicking on the map or using the geolocation service on\u00a0<\/span><\/span>their\u00a0<\/span><\/span>mobile device.\u00a0<\/span><\/span>The app will determine if the location falls within (intersects) the available zones\u00a0<\/span><\/span>or not<\/span><\/span>.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/span>If\u00a0<\/span><\/span>the searched location is<\/span><\/span>\u00a0within\u00a0<\/span><\/span>the zone,\u00a0<\/span><\/span>information about zones\u00a0<\/span><\/span>(Search Results)<\/span><\/span>\u00a0will be returned, if not<\/span><\/span>\u00a0you will be notified the location is outside of the zone<\/span><\/span>.\u00a0<\/span><\/span>This may seem complicated to explain<\/span><\/span>\u00a0with words<\/span><\/span>, but the user interaction is simple. All the user needs to do is input their address and view the search results.\u00a0<\/span><\/span>Let\u2019s\u00a0<\/span><\/span>look<\/span><\/span>\u00a0at how\u00a0<\/span><\/span>to<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/span>configure a<\/span><\/span>\u00a0Zone Lookup app.\u00a0<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Step 1.\u00a0<\/span><\/span>Create a<\/span><\/span>\u00a0map<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/h3>\n

The\u00a0<\/span>map\u00a0<\/span><\/b>must contain <\/span><\/b>one or more\u00a0<\/span><\/b>polygons<\/span><\/b>\u00a0of your zone<\/span>\u00a0data<\/span>.\u00a0<\/span>For this example<\/a>, three polygon layers showing High School, Middle School, and Elementary School Districts have been added to the map used in the app.<\/span><\/p>\n

Take time to\u00a0<\/span><\/b>configure the<\/span><\/b>\u00a0pop-up<\/span><\/b>. Chose meaningful symbology and review it<\/span><\/span>\u00a0at<\/span><\/span>\u00a0multiple scales<\/span><\/span>. When users visit your Zone Lookup app, they will start at full extent, when location is searched the map will zoom <\/span><\/span>to the\u00a0<\/span><\/span>Search Results<\/span><\/span>.<\/span><\/span>\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/span>Consider transparency, as zones can cover a large area. There may be instances where you want your users to see additional layers for reference or be able to view details like street names in the\u00a0<\/span><\/span>basemap<\/span><\/span>.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Note.\u00a0<\/span><\/span>There is a\u00a0<\/span><\/span>configuration\u00a0<\/span><\/span>option\u00a0<\/span><\/span>t<\/span><\/span>o hide layers until a search is performed. <\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Step 2. Pick the<\/span><\/span>\u00a0Zone Lookup Template<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/h3>\n

Once your map\u00a0<\/span>created and saved, click Share in the Map Viewer and click Create a Web App.\u00a0 Select Zone Lookup as your app.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Step 3 – Theme and Layout<\/strong> is where you can chose the look and feel of your app.\u00a0 Options include a light and dark theme, in addition if your organization has shared theme enabled, you can chose to use it within your app. Zone Lookup has two layout options, by default the map will be shown or you can choose to hide the map.\u00a0 In some cases, the map isn\u2019t required to answer the\u00a0users\u00a0questions. For a simplified app without a map, you can select the hide map in application setting. Your users will still be able to answer the spatial questions from the layers in the map, but the results will be returned as text, without a visual display of the map. When search results are returned, you have the option to include custom text if no results are returned.\u00a0Configure a message to indicate to users<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>when no results are returned.\u00a0<\/span>This way users<\/span>\u00a0will see that<\/span>\u00a0there were no results, instead of just having nothing returned in the\u00a0<\/span>results. Next, set the Search Configuration<\/strong>. Configure the search locators used by the app to provide in a clear searching experience. An additional configuration option exists to<\/span> limit locations returned by a polygon<\/strong>. This will refine results by using a polygon layer as the search boundary.
