Tile packages make life a lot easier when you want to share cartographically rich, high resolution data as a\u00a0<\/span>basemap<\/span>\u00a0in your organization, or when you need to distribute large cache datasets for offline workflows in ArcGIS Runtime apps.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

If you spen<\/span>d<\/span>\u00a0a significant amount of time and resources creating cached raster datasets,<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>or if you collect imagery from third parties, you may have wondered: \u201cIf only there was a way to package this data up\u00a0<\/span>as<\/span>\u00a0a tile package, share it as a hosted tile layer in ArcGIS Online or\u00a0<\/span>ArcGIS Enterprise, or take it offline in a mobile device!\u201d<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Well, wait no more! We’re making it easy for you to cook up your own cache and share it with others as a tile package.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

An open tile package specification<\/h2>\n

Esri’s latest contribution to the open-source GIS community\u00a0<\/span>is an open specification for tile packages<\/a><\/span>.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

You can create\u00a0<\/span>tile caches<\/span>\u00a0using various tools and workflows available in ArcGIS\u00a0<\/span>products or<\/span>\u00a0using Esri’s\u00a0<\/span>open specification<\/span>\u00a0for com<\/span>pact caches<\/span><\/a>,\u00a0<\/span>and\u00a0<\/span>then\u00a0<\/span>create tile\u00a0<\/span>package<\/span>s<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>using<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>the\u00a0<\/span>open<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>tile package<\/span>\u00a0specification available in Esri’s GitHub repository<\/span>.<\/span><\/a>\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The new tile package format, which uses the<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>.<\/span>tpkx<\/span>\u00a0file extension, was introduced at ArcGIS Pro 2.3 and ArcGIS 10.7. It\u2019s now the default format for all your tile package creation workflows and is supported in ArcGIS Online<\/span>, ArcGIS E<\/span>nterprise<\/span>\u00a0and applications built with ArcGIS Runtime SDK 100.5 or later for Android, Java, iOS, .NET, and Qt.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n"},{"acf_fc_layout":"sidebar","content":"
