What we’ve seen and heard<\/span><\/h2>\n

Back in July when we launched the new <\/span>ArcGIS\u00a0<\/span>StoryMaps<\/span>\u00a0we also announced an initial transition timeline for our classic storytelling templates (<\/span>Story Map\u00a0<\/span>Journal, Cascade, Tour, etc.). Since then, we\u2019ve been monitoring the usage of both the new<\/a> and classic<\/a> story builders and listening to the feedback we\u2019ve received from our community of storytellers. Now that we\u2019re a few months into this new project, we wanted to revisit this timeline.<\/span><\/p>\n

We\u2019ve seen an overall increase in story production, and specifically you\u2019re creating a LOT of stories with the new ArcGIS <\/span>StoryMaps<\/span>. In fact, when we look at the daily numbers<\/span>,<\/span>\u00a0you\u2019re creating significantly more stories with the new\u00a0<\/span>StoryMaps<\/span>\u00a0than with all the other classic builders combined.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

But in addition to your adoption of the new ArcGIS StoryMaps, something we\u2019ve heard <\/span>through direct<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>feedback is that some of you are nervous about the transition from the classic templates. Some are uncertain about what to do for upcoming projects that require a feature that\u2019s not yet available in the new <\/span>StoryMaps. <\/span>Others told us that while you love the new StoryMaps, there are internal processes and documents to update and people to train, and those things take time.<\/span><\/p>\n

When it comes to the classic stories you\u2019ve already created, rest assured that they\u2019ll be around for a long time. And, in response to what you\u2019ve told us, we\u2019re happy to announce that we\u2019ve updated the details of our transition plan to help put your minds even more at ease.\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n

An updated timeline<\/h2>\n

The previous plan had milestones set for when classic builders would eventually be restricted from both creating new stories and editing existing stories. <\/span>B<\/span>ased on your feedback,<\/span>\u00a0these milestones have been removed.\u00a0As long as\u00a0the classic templates are available<\/em><\/span>,\u00a0they will work as they do today with respect to creating and editing stories.\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n

The new timeline indicates the classic storytelling templates will simply enter a period of extended support in July 2021 and then enter the mature support phase in July 2024. At no time during this period will the classic builders be restricted from creating or editing stories, so you\u2019ll be able to make new stories or edit stories you\u2019ve already made. <\/em>These dates simply indicate when certain update and maintenance activities will change. After July 2024, your stories may still be available; however, after this time there will be no further planned maintenance updates to the templates, so future browser updates or platform changes may affect the use or performance of the templates.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
